NEWS RELEASE

As the community is aware, President Donald Trump will be visiting Dalton on Friday, October 16th. There will be several key pieces of traffic and general information that are important for the Airport Road area on that date. Please read the following information carefully, as there will be multiple things to make note of for our POTUS visit.

-A portion of Airport Road will be COMPLETELY shut down during the duration of the President's visit to the Dalton Municipal Airport. While he is in town, absolutely no traffic will be allowed to pass starting at the intersection of Keith Mill Road and Airport Road. This closure will extend all the way to the Murray County Line past the airport.

-We do not have an exact time frame for this closure but expect Airport Road to be closed anywhere from 12 pm to 5 pm.

-There is NO parking allowed on Airport Road, including the roadway, shoulder of the roadway, and all county easements. If your vehicle is parked anywhere on Airport Road in the manner listed above, it WILL BE towed. There will also be no parking on any roadway connected to Airport Road including side streets and shoulders.

-Airport Road SE (located just behind the Dalton Municipal Airport) will be closed ALL DAY October 16th.

-Absolutely no weapons should be in your vehicle upon your arrival. If you are found to be in possession of a weapon, you will be escorted off the property on foot and will not have access to your vehicle until after the event has concluded.

Our office is working closely with multiple agencies, including the Secret Service, to ensure the safety of all participants. Be sure to follow us on social media for any updates or changes for Friday's Presidential visit.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION: SMALL STEPS CAN SAVE LIVES 🔥

October is a great time to take a few minutes to make your home and family safer from fire. A fire can become dangerous in just minutes, so prevention and having a plan are important.

🏠 CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS
Make sure you have working smoke alarms and test them regularly. Everyone in your home should recognize the sound and know what to do.

🚪 HAVE TWO WAYS OUT
Identify at least two ways out of every room when possible. Keep exits, hallways, and doors clear.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 MAKE A FAMILY ESCAPE PLAN
Choose a safe meeting place outside your home where everyone will gather after evacuating.

🔥 GET OUT & STAY OUT
If there is a fire, leave immediately and call 911 from a safe location. Never go back inside a burning building.

🍳 WATCH WHAT YOU HEAT
Stay in the kitchen while cooking and keep anything that can burn away from the stove and other heat sources.

🔌 CHECK CORDS & OUTLETS
Replace damaged electrical cords and avoid overloading outlets or extension cords.

🧯 KNOW YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Keep an appropriate extinguisher accessible and know how to use it—but never let fighting a small fire delay your escape.

🐾 INCLUDE YOUR PETS
Consider your pets when making your home fire escape plan.

Take a few minutes this week to test your alarms, talk with your family, and practice your escape plan.

PREVENT. PLAN. PRACTICE.

A few minutes of preparation today could make all the difference during a fire emergency.
