Geisinger EMS is excited to announce that our Western Expansion continues to deliver meaningful progress towards expanding access to emergency medical services in Juniata County. Yesterday, 9/22/2026 Geisinger EMS in Mifflintown officially upgraded its level of service from Basic Life Support (BLS) to Intermediate Advanced Life Support (IALS).

What’s the difference? 🤔—

1) Basic Life Support is a level of care where an Ambulance is staffed with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). EMTs make up 67.5% of all Nationally Certified EMS Clinicians. (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, n.d.)

2 ) Intermediate Advanced Life Support is a level of care where an Ambulance is staffed with at least one Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and their partner is typically an EMT. AEMTs make up 5% of all Nationally Certified EMS Clinicians (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, n.d.)

With an AEMT leading care, our Team is able to deliver additional care that exceeds the current BLS level an EMT is able to provide. This means being able to deliver critical life saving care like establishing IV, providing fluid hydration, administering select medications, airway management and much more!

Geisinger Central Region is offering an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) Training Class for EMS providers on October 21, 2026, from 1800–1930 hours.

This will be an in-person training designed to provide EMS providers with practical knowledge and skills for caring for patients with LVADs in the prehospital setting.

Continuing Education: 1.5 hours

EMS Explorer Post

Our Post is sponsored by Geisinger EMS and is open to youths who are at least 14 years-old AND have completed 8th grade. Our Explorers will learn about pre-hospital emergency medical care. They will receive certifications, participate in training and medical simulators, hands-on activities will expose youths to emergency care treatments, including airway and breathing emergencies, how to take blood pressure, CPR, and tourniquet use.

Once training is complete, Explorers over the age of 16 can ride on the ambulances and get experience alongside an EMT and Paramedic.

Open House will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 – 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Meetings are held at the Geisinger EMS Station, 56 Woodbine Lane, Danville

25 years later… We remember.

Today we take a moment to remember and reflect on the past, September 11th, 2001. What started as a normal day around the World, quickly torn by tragedy and grief. We remember the innocent lives lost, and the ultimate sacrifice that first responders made on that day.

While some of us can remember where we were, what we were doing, and how we felt that day — there is millions of Americans in new newer generations that don’t. It is important to take moments like this to take time to reflect, share and learn it’s significance and enduring legacy to those born after 9/11.

25 years later, we still remember.

In case you missed it — Members from Geisinger EMS attended this honorable ceremony to remember the sacrifices many made on 9/11. Thanks to our team, and everyone else that attended. 🩵 🚑

First responders and community members gathered at PNC Field in Moosic for a stair climb to help honor the legacy of loved ones and strangers lost on 9/11.
