Boyle County Fire Department was proud to recently participate in Lowe’s Safety Day, alongside our partners at Danville Fire Department, Stanford Fire Department & Boyle County EMS.

Events like these provide a great opportunity to connect with our community, promote fire prevention and safety awareness, and help educate families on the importance of being prepared for emergencies.

We appreciate Lowe’s for hosting this event and giving our local fire departments the opportunity to come together and share valuable safety information with the public. Community outreach and fire prevention are important parts of our mission to keep the citizens of our communities safe.

A big thank-you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and took the time to learn more about fire and life safety. We’re proud to work alongside our neighboring departments to serve and protect our communities

Tonight, Boyle County Fire Department had the opportunity to participate in a Landing Zone (LZ) class conducted by Air Evac Lifeteam.

This training provided valuable instruction on establishing and managing a safe landing zone for incoming medical helicopters. Proper landing zone operations are critical when seconds count and patients need rapid transport to definitive medical care.

We appreciate the Air Evac Lifeteam crew for taking the time to work with our firefighters and share their knowledge and experience. Training together strengthens communication, improves coordination, and helps ensure we are ready to work safely and effectively alongside our air medical partners when emergencies happen.

A big thank you to Air Evac Lifeteam for investing in our local first responders and helping us better serve the citizens of Boyle County!

Great training tonight, thank you Danville Fire Department for putting on another great class!

The Boyle County Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the Durham Fire Department and the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of Firefighter Andrew Brokes, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on October 8, 2026.

Firefighter Brokes, 24, made the ultimate sacrifice while operating at a building fire in Durham, North Carolina. Two additional firefighters were injured during the incident.

Today, the fire service has lost one of its own. Behind every badge and uniform is a person who willingly accepts tremendous risks to protect others. When one of our brothers or sisters does not return home, the loss is felt far beyond the department they served.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Firefighter Brokes’ family, the members of Durham Fire Department, and the injured firefighters as they navigate this heartbreaking tragedy. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Durham during this incredibly difficult time.

May Firefighter Brokes’ service, courage, and sacrifice never be forgotten.

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Thank you, Durham, for surrounding our DFD family with care during this profoundly difficult time.

Boyle County Fire Department and Perryville Fire Department were proud to be part of the parade this morning before setting up for Touch-A-Truck throughout the day.

Our crews enjoyed meeting members of the community, visiting with families, and handing out gifts to the kids. We appreciate everyone who came out and helped make today a great event.

A special thank-you to all of our members who volunteered their time and helped represent our departments throughout the day.

We’ll see everyone next weekend in Forkland!

Boyle County Fire Department was excited to spend some time with the students of KSD MSD for a hands on fire safety and equipment demonstration!

Our firefighters showed the students some of the equipment we use every day, explained what each piece of equipment is used for, and talked with them about the importance of fire safety and being prepared for an emergency.

Opportunities like this allow our firefighters to connect with students, answer questions, and help build a better understanding of what happens when firefighters respond to an emergency.

A big thank you to KSD MSD for inviting BCFD to be a part of the day! We appreciate the opportunity to work with these students and share a little bit about the fire service.
