Since the election, I’ve had the privilege of spending time each week at the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, with the dedicated men and women who serve our community every day.
During these visits, I’ve had the opportunity to learn about every division of the agency—from Administration, Patrol, Civil, Investigations, K-9, and Narcotics to School Resource Officers, Detention, Evidence, Communications, and Emergency Response. Seeing firsthand the professionalism, commitment, and teamwork of these employees has only strengthened my excitement for the future of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Sheriff Doug Doughtie and his administration for the warm welcome and for their commitment to ensuring a smooth, professional transition. Their willingness to share their knowledge and experiences demonstrates a genuine commitment to serving the citizens of Dare County above all else. This opportunity has provided invaluable insights.
A successful transition isn't about politics—it's about making sure the people of Dare County receive the highest level of public safety services without interruption. I am grateful for the cooperation and support that has made this process so valuable.
As Sheriff-Elect, I remain committed to listening, learning, and preparing to lead on day one. I look forward to building on the foundation already in place and finding ways for the agency to provide the absolute best law enforcement services to our communities.
Thank you for your continued trust, encouragement, and support. I’m excited for what lies ahead, and I look forward to serving each of you as your next Sheriff.
– Rodney Rawls, Sheriff-Elect
