It is with heavy hearts that Dorchester County Fire Rescue announces the passing of Ret. Battalion Chief Chastity Bigney after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Chastity was a valued member of our DCFR family, and her loss is deeply felt throughout our department. We are grateful for her service, her leadership, and the difference she made in the lives of those who served alongside her. We will always remember her with respect and affection.

Please keep Chastity’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Chief Bigney.

25 YEARS LATER — WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Today marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks—a day that forever changed our nation.

We pause to remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost, including the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and all of the first responders who answered the call without hesitation.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 carries a profound meaning. We remember the firefighters who climbed the stairs while others were coming down. They knew the danger, yet continued upward because people needed them.

Their courage, sacrifice, brotherhood, and unwavering commitment to duty remain an example for every firefighter who wears the badge today.

Twenty-five years have passed, but our promise remains unchanged:

We will remember their names.
We will remember their courage.
We will remember their sacrifice.
We will NEVER FORGET.

Today, the members of the Palmetto Rural Fire Department stand with fire departments, first responders, families, and communities across our nation in honoring all those lost on September 11, 2001, and those who have since passed from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

May we always remember how our nation came together in the days that followed, and may we continue to honor the fallen through our service to others.

🇺🇸 25 YEARS LATER. STILL REMEMBERED. ALWAYS HONORED. NEVER FORGOTTEN. 🇺🇸
