For Halloween week only, The Half Nelson is teaming up with the Quad City Spiritualist Society to bring you “Beyond the Crimson Veil,” an unforgettable paranormal pop-up experience. 

Chef Connor has crafted cocktails and mocktails infused with ingredients from traditional divinatory practices, and small bites inspired by the ancestral cuisine of a forgotten Davenport industrialist whose tragic loss fueled a paranormal obsession.

The evening opens with a history presentation from the Quad City Spiritualist Society, followed by an outline of the main course: a real séance in a recreation of A.F. von Rantzau’s Victorian séance parlor. Will he answer?

Here is a dish that is well worthy of some shine. If you enjoyed the first variation of the Lamb Meatballs, then we cam guarantee that you'll thoroughly enjoy this variation. You'll notice that the meat balls are still served with risotto but the meatballs themselves are blackened making them extremely flavorful while also providing some great texture to the dish. Chef has always loved how lamb can still shine through heavy flavors and spices and that was the overall goal here with the blackening seasoning. The dish is finished with pecorino romano and an herb condiment made from marigolds! 😎

Everybody raise a glass of red w**e today because is Cassidy's day!
Cassidy has been one of our longest-running employees. You've probably seen her taking orders and delighting people out on the patio of Cafe San Lorenzo, or running around the dining room of the Half Nelson, gracing folks with her presence. If you've had the chance to be waited on by Cassidy, you know what we're talking about! She is simply amazing! She recently sat down to answer some questions for us, so take a minute to get to know her a little bit better 🙌

Q: How long have you been at the Half Nelson?
A: I'm going on my 5th year! It's kinda crazy; it feels like it was just yesterday when I started!

Q: What's kept you around for so long?
A: My coworkers and the management! The teamwork here is like nothing else I've ever experienced at a restaurant!

Q: How long have you lived in the QCA?
A: My entire life! Born and raised in Davenport!

Q: Favorite dish on the menu?
A: It's a toss-up between the Autumn Agnolotti and the Lamb Meatballs, just absolutely phenomenal!

Q: What do you find most gratifying about being in the service industry?
A: The people 1000%! I love making new relationships and friends with regulars who come in. I've made so many new friends through this job; it's amazing!

Q: It's the end of your shift, time to unwind and you feel like you deserve a drink, what are you sippin' on?
A: Always some sort of bold red w**e, or a sweet rum cocktail!

Q: What can people expect to find you doing outside of work?
A: Traveling! It's one of my favorite things to do! My goal is to see the 7 world wonders; 1 down, 6 to go!

Q: How do you feel working in the service industry has shaped how you live your life?
A: Being able to build relationships and just being more out going! I was super shy growing up so serving for 11 years has really helped me break out of my shell!

Q: What is a core memory you hold close to you from serving at the Half Nelson?
A: Opening Cafe San Lorenzo! It was such a fun and crazy process, we weren't sure how it was gonna go and it turned out amazing! It was great to be apart of!

The Pork Collar Al Pastor has become a staple here at the Half Nelson. It has been well-received by so many of you and it's flavors will always hold a special place in our hearts and on our palettes. We are very excited about what is to come and invite you to embrace this change with us as we move forward and try new things!
