Proudly serving with courage, commitment, and care. For emergencies, call 911. In 2020, DFD opened Station #2.

The Davenport Fire Department was formed in 1926 and operated as an all-volunteer department until 2004. In 2009, the department restructured and became a full time paid organization in order to provide the best possible service to its citizens. Today the department operates out of two stations, staffed with 16 full-time firefighters, 4 part-time firefighters and 3 reserve firefighters. Professionally trained personnel provide fire protection, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response and mitigation, fire prevention and inspection, community education, and disaster planning services. Polk County is the eighth most populated county in the state with 583,403 residents. Davenport Fire Department provides fire suppression and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) services to the residents of Davenport and the surrounding area.

Not all of our training happens hands-on. Sometimes it starts around the table, talking through scenarios, sharing experience, and reviewing best practices. These conversations help us learn from one another and strengthen how we work together to serve Davenport.

This October, the Davenport Fire Department is wearing black and pink shirts in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We stand with those facing breast cancer, honor survivors, remember those we have lost, and recognize the families, caregivers, and loved ones who support them.

Lt. Castro shared important tips, answered thoughtful questions, and helped make the presentation both informative and engaging. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with the community and help residents stay prepared during severe weather.

We are grateful to the American Legion for visiting our station this morning and presenting our department with a plaque, commemorative wall art, and refreshments in remembrance of September 11.

Thank you for your thoughtful gesture and for joining us in honoring the lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and the lasting spirit of service that continues to unite our community.

Firefighter Perez climbed in remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

The names on his air pack represent loved ones lost that day. Each name was submitted by someone who asked him to climb in their loved one’s honor, including Nancy Liz, a member of his wife’s family who was lost in the World Trade Center attacks.

The 110-story stair climb honors the height of the World Trade Center towers and the courageous ascent firefighters made to help others. We remember their service, sacrifice, and heroism—25 years later and always.

Polk County Fire Rescue has lost one of their own in a line of duty death. Volunteer Chaplain Hector Cruz passed away due to injuries sustained during a car crash in the Eagle Lake area Wednesday. The crash occurred while he was traveling between PCFR stations to check on crews.
