Not excited about raking and bagging leaves this fall? Good news – you have options! Instead, try chopping them up and leaving them right on the lawn. Using a regular or mulching mower, you can shred those leaves into free, natural fertilizer.

Mulched leaves break down and add valuable organic matter to your soil, giving your lawn a healthy boost for next season.

Here's a few tips:
• If you have a LOT of leaves, spread some in your garden beds as well.
• Just be sure not to mulch so heavily that the grass gets smothered — you should still see the grass poking through.
• And yes, if your leaf pile looks like a small mountain, you will need to rake a bit… but hopefully a lot less than usual.

Let’s keep our streets and streams clean, Davenport!

Davenport’s No Sticker Yard Waste Weeks are almost here!

From Monday, October 26 through Friday, December 4, Davenport residents with solid waste collection can set out yard waste in Kraft paper bags without a sticker on their regular pickup day.

Residents may also drop off bagged yard waste at the Compost Facility for free during this time.

And if you use a yard waste cart, good news - cart collection fees are waived during No Sticker Yard Waste Weeks.

The intersection of River Dr, River St, and McClellan Blvd will close beginning October 19 as the City moves forward with permanently realigning the intersection. This follows a successful temporary traffic safety trial completed earlier this summer.

The design will require drivers to make a 90-degree turn to reach River St, eliminating the current “exit ramp” style movement and creating a much safer intersection.

As part of the project, crews will also complete stormwater upgrades, pavement improvements, and ADA compliant sidewalk updates. Installing new curb and gutter will require a lane reduction on River Dr during construction.

Work is expected to wrap up by early December, weather permitting.

Watch for changing traffic control on Harrison St this weekend! Crews are flipping the resurfacing project between W Central Park and Locust over to the east side. Even with the recent weather, progress has stayed right on track. Work is expected to wrap up by early December.

Winter is just around the corner, and Davenport is getting ready. Plow blades and spreaders are being installed, crews are training, and we have topped off our salt supply.

As we prepare, we’re asking residents and visitors to get ready too - starting with signing up for Snow Emergency Alerts.

Want to know if your alerts are working? We’ll be testing our Snow Emergency notification system at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15. If you haven’t signed up yet, now’s the perfect time.

Many Quad City neighborhoods and businesses are responsible for maintaining stormwater detention areas that help protect homes and downstream properties.

To support that work, the City of Davenport and our Quad City partners invite you to a free workshop on October 22 from 4:30–6:00/6:30 p.m. in the Davenport Police Department Community Room, 416 Harrison St, Davenport.

At the workshop, you’ll learn:
• How detention basins work
• What maintenance responsibilities look like
• How to prevent costly issues in your neighborhood and downstream

Local experts will also share simple ways to reduce nutrient loading and improve pond habitat - creating a healthier, better functioning space for everyone.

We look forward to working with you to keep this important infrastructure healthy and effective!

As we near the end of the construction season, with plenty still happening on 4th Street, the City will phase in two-way travel on 4th St, starting with the section between Harrison St and E River Dr.

Over the next two weeks, you’ll see shifting travel lanes between Harrison and E River Dr while crews stripe, add signage, and update signals for the conversion. Access to businesses will remain open.

Once that work is complete, 4th Street will switch to two-way traffic between Harrison and E River Dr. The section between Marquette and Harrison will convert later once resurfacing in that area is finished.

In the meantime, expect lane reductions from Harrison to Fillmore as resurfacing continues on the north side.

Thanks for your patience—watch for updates in the coming weeks!
