Help us celebrate Captain Kevin Wright, our Firefighter of the Year. Nominated by his peers for his outstanding leadership and dedication, Captain Wright was honored last week at American Legion Post 77. Since joining the Department in 2023, Kevin has made a lasting impact, leading to his recent promotion to Fire Captain this past March. We are incredibly proud to have him on our team. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Kevin!

Stevensons Bridge (Graffiti Bridge) is scheduled to close on May 1st through October. Local access to properties and businesses within the closure areas will be maintained throughout construction, but you will not be able to cross the bridge between Yolo/Solano county.

Stevenson Bridge Rehabilitation Project to Begin in May

Solano County, in partnership with Yolo County, is moving forward with the rehabilitation of the historic Stevenson Bridge, a 298-foot, multi-span arch bridge spanning Putah Creek between the two counties. While both counties are served by the bridge, Solano County was originally established as the agency responsible for its maintenance. Yolo County contributes to half of the ongoing maintenance costs for the structure.

At more than 100 years old, Stevenson Bridge is designated as a historical landmark and serves as a critical transportation link connecting Solano and Yolo counties. According to California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the bridge “is a rare example of a reinforced concrete through tied arch in California and is the oldest bridge of this type in California and possibly the United States.” Often referred to locally as “Graffiti Bridge,” it is the only remaining concrete double arch span bridge of its kind from its era.

It's Time To Clear Vegetation!

Late rains followed by record heat means one thing: the grass is growing fast! We want to remind all residents that 2026 W**d Abatement is officially underway.

We recently mailed out informational postcards, but here is a quick refresher to keep your home and our community safe:

Structures: Clear a minimum of 20' around all buildings.

Property Lines: Maintain 30' of clearance.

Roadways: Clear 10' back from the roadway edge to ensure emergency access.

Propane & Chimneys: Clear 10' around propane tanks and stovepipe outlets.

Maintenance: Ensure spark guards are in place for chimneys and stovepipes.

Trees: Remove dead or dying limbs overhanging or adjacent to buildings.

🚒 ISO Rating Improvement Announcement 🚒
The West Plainfield Fire Protection District has officially improved its ISO Public Protection Classification from Class 3/3Y to Class 2/2Y.

ISO ratings evaluate a community’s fire protection capabilities, including staffing, training, apparatus, communications, and water supply. This improvement reflects the hard work of our firefighters and staff and our ongoing commitment to readiness and service.

An improved ISO rating may result in lower fire insurance premiums for some property owners. Residents and businesses are encouraged to check with their insurance providers.

Thank you to our personnel, partners, and community for supporting strong, reliable emergency services.

After 24 years of Front Line Service, our 2002 HME has earned the right to slow down into Reserve Engine Status. In her place we introduce our new (to us) 2017 Rosenbauer Commander Engine 30. She comes to us from Baltimore County, Maryland. New E30 has seating for 6, 1,000 Gallon Tank, and a 1500 GPM pump. We’d like to thank our Board & Chief Stiles for this upgraded equipment to better serve our community.
