Join us in congratulating Cesilio "Cess" Mercado for being appointed deputy fire chief of the UC Davis Fire Department! He has been acting as interim deputy fire chief since November.

Mercado is a UC Davis alumnus with a degree in exercise biology. He began as a student firefighter as an undergrad in '99. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2002, he became a firefighter and has since served in all the department’s operational roles. Mercado was promoted to engineer in 2005 and captain in 2014. Outside of UC Davis, he has been a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, has been deployed overseas as a senior medic and more.
