“You’re a midwife-I bet you hold babies all the time!”
Many of our clients are so surprised when we tell them that we don’t hold our client’s babies very often! This is because we see our role as being a supporter of your process-you have been the one carrying your baby, growing your baby, and birthing your baby. You have 1000% earned every single sacred snuggle with your sweet little one!
It’s also not lost on us that in our western culture, there is a huge focus on “holding the baby” after birth versus “holding the mother”. And while the babies absolutely go through their own journey during pregnancy and birth, they are receiving the care and love they need from their mother. But the mother also needs and deserves this same love and care while healing from birth.
All of this being said, this makes it all the more special when clients ask us to hold their babies. Here is Midwife Ady with a beloved client’s baby!

Now that we’ve got your attention with this amazing mug (courtesy of one our dear clients), did you know that your postpartum care with Birthstream Midwifery Service includes lactation support? Establishing a good supply depends on proper milk removal, which means that a baby’s latch is essential.
Each of our midwives has lactation support experience and can help you troubleshoot any issues. Early on, it’s quite normal for there to be an adjustment period where you and baby are figuring things out. But if you need a helping hand, we got you!
