The Miami Valley Crime Prevention Association Crime Prevention is the anticipation, recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some action to remove or reduce it!

09/11/2026

The Miami Valley Crime Prevention Association (MVCPA) is currently in discussions about developing a Regional Citizens Police Academy.

The goal would be to bring multiple police agencies together to create one regional academy while sharing the workload, resources, and instruction. The academy would consist of five sessions, held one day per week, with each session hosted by a different participating police agency.

Each agency would be responsible for hosting and teaching a specific block of instruction, giving participants the opportunity to learn about different aspects of law enforcement while also seeing how different agencies operate.

The academy would be open to citizens throughout the Miami Valley. An agency does not have to be one of the five agencies providing instruction in order to participate. Any police department could advertise the academy to members of its community and encourage their residents to attend.

We believe this could be a great way to reenergize interest in Citizens Police Academies. Participants would get to experience different agencies, instructors, facilities, and perspectives throughout the academy, helping keep the program fresh and interesting.

If your agency is interested in helping with the development or instruction of the academy, or if you would simply be interested in advertising the program to your community, please reach out and let us know.

Please email [email protected] if you are interested or would like additional information.

We look forward to hearing from agencies throughout the Miami Valley and working together to build a program that benefits both law enforcement and the communities we serve. It would be limited to 30 residents, if the interest is high we will likely host 2 per year if all goes to plan. This is not designed to take the place of an your existing Citizens Police academy if you already have one.
