Miami Valley's premier early childhood education/Head Start provider. We serve families & children 0

The agency's program outcomes focus on school readiness for children ages birth to five. Each child is assessed at the beginning of the school year and periodically throughout the year. Results are regularly reviewed and tabulated to determine each child’s progress and what is required to assist in their continued development. The program targets most of its services toward families of low income. A primary focus of this effort is an emphasis on helping families by teaching parenting skills and life skills. MVCDC works holistically with each child and family through a balanced approach of parent involvement, health, nutrition, social competency, literacy and numeracy development. This combination is what ensures that Head Start children will be ready to learn when they enter kindergarten.

MVCDC Home Base staff recently attended a Community Trunk or Treat hosted by the Fire Station Lodge located at 703 N Bird Street in Springfield Ohio. Staff shared awesome treats and discussed enrollment opportunities with over 300 children and families.

𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 and we are celebrating with bubbles!

What can preschoolers learn from bubbles?
A lot! 🫧🌈

Ms. Angie’s small group had some bubbly fun while putting their science and math skills to work.

The children experimented with what happens when they blow bubbles quickly versus slowly. Instead of being told what would happen, they tried it themselves, watched the results, and compared what they saw.

They also explored how light reflects from the thin surface of a bubble to create those beautiful rainbow colors. 🌈

And, of course, you can’t have bubbles without popping a few! The children practiced their counting skills as the bubbles popped.

𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵. 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆.

It may look like play, but there’s a lot of learning happening along the way. MVCDC teachers use everyday experiences like this to encourage children to ask questions, experiment, make discoveries, and build skills that will help prepare them for kindergarten.

Sometimes learning really is as much fun as blowing bubbles. 🫧

What happens when a book monster inspires small group time? You get a classroom full of adorable shape monsters!

MVCDC's ECEC Classroom B read 'There's a Monster in Your Book' during read a loud time this morning. Afterwards, the children put on their artist hats to bring geometric shapes alive! They had a blast naming circles, squares, and triangles while constructing their new monster friends. Learning shapes is always better with a little bit of monster magic!

We're not sure who had more fun—the preschoolers or their 16-year-old guest reader! 📚💙

Ms. Angie's grandson Cody stopped by Classroom B to read 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘵: 𝘐 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘔𝘺 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴, and the children got to help tell the story!

As Cody read, the children added felt pieces to the story board, bringing Pete's colorful adventures to life. They were having fun while building listening, language, and early literacy skills.

And after story time? The children took Cody outside to show him their playground! Judging by these photos, we think everyone had a pretty great day. 😊

Science Fridays, balloon breaths, and Pete the Cat?

Toya might make you wish you could go back to preschool! 🧪🎈📚

Toya knows how to make learning an adventure! From making volcanoes and slime to teaching children how to take deep breaths when they need a moment to calm down, she creates a classroom filled with curiosity, creativity, and fun.

But what makes her happiest?
Hearing from families that their children spent the weekend talking about what they learned and couldn't wait to come back to school on Monday! ❤️

As we celebrate 𝗠𝗩𝗖𝗗𝗖'𝘀 𝟲𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆, we're shining a spotlight on the amazing people who make a difference in the lives of children and families every day.
