At last night’s fire training, Lawrence firefighters got hands-on experience with vehicle extrication — the skills and techniques used to safely remove people from vehicles following an accident.

This type of hands-on training is essential for keeping our firefighters prepared to respond when seconds matter. Accidents can happen at any time, and having a team of knowledgeable, well-trained firefighters ready to respond can make a life-saving difference.

This training benefits not only our firefighters and the department, but every motorist traveling on our roads. We’re proud of our firefighters for continuing to train, learn, and prepare to serve our community when it matters most!

Every day, firefighters, police officers, emergency medical responders, tow truck drivers, and highway crews put their lives on the line right on the side of the road to protect our community.
When you see emergency lights flashing on the roadside, please remember:

1️⃣ MOVE OVER at least one full lane away if it is safe to do so.
2️⃣ SLOW DOWN to a safe speed if changing lanes isn't possible or safe.
3️⃣ STAY FOCUSED—put away distractions and keep your eyes on the road.

It’s not just a courtesy—it’s the law.
Help us make sure every emergency responder and road worker gets to return home safely at the end of their shift.

Today, Lawrence Fire Department visited the children at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School to share important fire safety tips!

Fire Chief Ron Cody and Assistant Fire Chief Bryan helped students understand that while firefighters’ protective gear may look scary, there’s no need to be afraid! Behind the masks and gear are moms, dads, brothers, sisters, and neighbors who are here to protect and help our community. ❤️

Teaching children about fire safety and helping them feel comfortable around firefighters is an important step in keeping our community safe!

A big thank you to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School for welcoming Lawrence Fire Department and giving us the opportunity to connect with these future fire safety experts! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

🔥 Fire Safety with the Cub Scouts! 🔥🚒

This past week, the Lawrence Fire Department had the pleasure of welcoming a local Cub Scout group to our station!

Our firefighters enjoyed sharing their knowledge about fire safety in the home and teaching the Scouts important tips to help keep themselves and their families safe.

Of course, no visit to the fire station would be complete without getting an up-close look at the fire trucks! 🚒

Thank you to the Cub Scouts and their leaders for stopping by! We always enjoy opportunities to connect with the younger members of our community and share the importance of fire safety.

At our monthly meeting last night we recognized the following members for years of service to the department.

🦸‍♀️⚡ Not all superheroes wear capes… some just unplug their phone when it's done charging. ⚡🦸‍♂️

Fire Prevention Week starts TOMORROW (Oct. 4–10), and this year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower."

Phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, power tools, vapes, kids' toys — lithium-ion batteries are in almost everything we own. When they're damaged or charged the wrong way, they can overheat and start fires FAST.

Here's how to use your superpower 💪
🔌 Use the charger and cord that came with your device
🛏️ Charge on a hard surface — never on a bed, couch, or under a pillow
⏱️ Unplug once it's fully charged
🏷️ Buy products listed by a recognized testing lab (look for the safety mark)
🔥 Stop using any battery that's swollen, hot, leaking, or smells strange
♻️ Recycle batteries the right way — never toss them in the trash
