Commissioner Terry and the D6 Team absolutely loved supporting artist Lori Lejeune | Atlanta Mixed Media Artist who installed two art banners featuring a Swallowtail butterfly at the Scottdale Pocket Park on the Compassionate Corridor this past weekend.

Lejeune hopes to encourage environmental stewardship through artistic photo ops with these installations that highlight local pollinators.

Big thanks to co-sponsor The Art Share, fellow artist Shannon Willow behind the Lungs of Mother Earth sculpture, and Leann from Compassionate Atlanta who attended the unveiling and made the event such a fun and inspiring event.

Look for these art banners at the Scottdale pocket park and Legacy Park. Two additional sites will get their own banners installed next year.

Thanks again to our great community for supporting arts in DeKalb!

🪏 On Wednesday, October 7, Commissioner Ted Terry joined Madam CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Commissioner Michelle Long Spears, alongside developers, investors, and partners as they celebrated a groundbreaking of RangeWater Residential’s second multifamily building at Lulah Hills.

Once completed, Lulah Hills will offer an array of retail and housing options, in addition to much-needed connections with local nature preserves and trail systems.

🚴 Starting at Wild Honey Park, visitors and residents will be able to follow trails across Peachtree Creek to the 40-acre Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve as well as into Medlock Park. Bikers will also enjoy a smooth 16-minute ride from Lulah Hills to Emory on the paved trails.

ICYMI: This week, during the Board of Commissioners Meeting on October 13, Commissioner Ted Terry welcomed climate champions to participate in the reading of a proclamation honoring International Day of Climate Action.

He was joined by numerous local leaders in the environmental justice sector, including filmmakers and artists who will participate in our upcoming Free Climate Film Festival on October 23-24 at Porter Sanford.

Watch these excerpts that have been trimmed for length and hear from Black Empowerment for Environmental Sustainability (BEES) founder Ryan Jones about the benefits of fusing art and environmentalism.

You can view the entirety of this proclamation by heading over to the DeKalb County Television (DCTV23) website and watching the video from the BOC meeting on October 13.

Thanks for sharing your insights with us, Ryan, and thanks to everyone who showed up to be part of this momentous day! More to come…
