More than 30 people attended the annual Domestic Violence Abuse Awareness Month meeting at the Morgan County Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon. Crisis Services of North Alabama hosted the meeting with speakers offering insight about available resources, judicial protocol and real life cases of domestic violence.

District 3 Commissioner Matthew Frost urges caution for motorists in the county to be aware of downed trees across the county. Here is a photo of a District 3 crew clearing Bert Stinson Road east of I-65 between Hartselle and Florette this morning. Rain is currently falling hard throughout north Alabama. Joe Wheeler Electric Co-op is reporting some power outages in northeast Morgan County.

In observance of the Columbus Day holiday, the county offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday morning. Residential garbage collection will run as normal on Monday. Stay safe this holiday weekend.

Paving the parking lot near the entrance of West Park got underway on Tuesday. District 2 Commissioner Randy Vest believes the paving and striping will add 42 parking spots to the park in Neel. He said the striping should be completed in a month. On Tuesday, District 2 Operator Preston Lindley monitored the paving contractors.
