Lows in the 40s are forecast for Sunday! Time to crank up that heating system. Safe, efficient natural gas is a wonderful alternative energy source for heating water, drying clothes and cooking too! DU's Budget Billing program helps you seasonal billing spikes by taking the past 12 months' billing data and leveling out your monthly payment. We analyze and make adjustments in May and November to keep you on track. You must have been on the DU system for 12 months and have bank draft setup. With the EnergyRight Smart Thermostat Program, DU customers can receive $65 for signing up and an additional $65 annual rebate for participating in the program, which allows TVA to adjust your thermostat setting by up to four degrees for four hours during periods of peak demand. Even if you heat with another energy source but cool with electricity, you are still eligible for a $20 annual rebate. Don't have a smart thermostat? You can purchase one and receive a $100 rebate to offset the cost. You can opt out of peak demand events but you must maintain 65% participation to receive your annual participation rebate. It may not be April, but it's always the right time to think about Work Zone Awareness. Whenever you see traffic control like barrels, cones, signs, message boards, etc. , that is your alert to an upcoming work zone where crews and heavy equipment are present. We ask that you slow down and pay close attention as you pass through the work zone. We want everyone - employees and motorists - to go home safe to their families each night. If you receive a solicitation in the mail regarding "water or sewer line insurance", do your due diligence! These companies are in no way associated with DU. Maintenance and repair of services lines beginning at your meter or sewer main tie-in are the responsibility of the homeowner. These insurance companies claim to offer protection against breaks, leaks, etc. Is it worth it? Possibly - in the event of dig-ins or root infiltration. However, as with ANY other type of insurance, we recommend you check into the company's history and legitimacy before taking out a policy. And remember, call 811 at least 48 hours before digging to have the location of underground utility lines marked so you can dig more safely. It's a free call!

Just a reminder of this active work zone in effect for the next several days:
Decatur Utilities will be performing utility construction work on Holly St NE near the 6th Ave NE intersection, from October 9th, 2026 to October 21st, 2026.

As a result of this work, Holly St NE will be closed to thru traffic beginning October 9th, 2026 at 8:00 AM, and will remain closed until October 21st, 2026 at 4:00 PM.

Utility workers will be on-site at 7:30 AM Friday morning to set up the necessary traffic control devices to notify motorists of the upcoming work zone.

DU asks that motorists be aware of all traffic control devices, construction personnel, and equipment in the work zone and to approach the area with extreme caution and at a reduced speed.

Did you know that the Decatur Utilities Natural Gas Department has been recognized multiple times as a recipient of the APGA SOAR Award? That stands for System Operational Achievement Recognition and is given to systems that have achieved excellence in the operation of their natural gas utility. We take great pride in having won at both the bronze (2018, 2022) and silver (2024). That is a testament to how seriously DU takes the mission of providing safe, reliable natural gas service to our customers. From our GWWW Ops field crews and natural gas technicians, to others supporting departments across DU, we work together to provide this alternative energy source for you - our customer!
