For over a year, Northeast Iowa RSVP has been matching the skills and interests of volunteers who are 55 and better with local partners to positively impact communities in Clayton and northern Fayette counties.

“Our goal is to meet critical community needs. Whatever we can do to be a really good partner and help build up the community,” explained director Deana Hageman.

Volunteering not only makes your day brighter, but it also makes the day brighter for all those you serve! Some of our lovely volunteers had fun volunteering for the School of the Wild with Decorah Community School District The students wrote such kind thank-you letters for our volunteers to have. Thank you to our volunteers and thank you to the students for such a kind gesture.

RSVP Members, please check your mail for more information about the RSVP celebrations happening in Allamakee, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties. ‼️YOU MUST RSVP FOR THE EVENT! ‼️RSVP by scanning the QR code you received in the mail, or contacting the RSVP office.

Howard: October 21st from 12-1:30 pm at the Featherlite Center
Allamakee: October 28th from 12-1:30 pm at the White Haus Social
Winneshiek: October 29th from 12-1:30 pm at the Community Building

‼️Only RSVP members are able to attend from 12-1. At 1 pm, the event opens up to the public while RSVP staff provides a program of speakers, videos, pictures, etc. The general public does not have to RSVP to attend the program.

Thanks to Cresco Bank & Trust Co. for all of their efforts to publize and host Fraud Fighters yesterday in partnership with Howard County Sheriff's Office , Cresco Police Department , and Johnson Computers & TV. Here is another "too good to be true" scam.

Have you gotten a call saying you can get free food if you just give them your Medicare number? Unfortunately, this is a scam. If you have given your Medicare number over the phone, please report it to the SMP. You can call 877-808-2468 or fill out a form at smpresource.org/reportfraud.

Don't let them fool you! Always check everything out. Call law enforcement, your bank, a friend or family member, or the Iowa Fraud Fighters to check. A gift card won't get you out of a warrant for your arrest, or secure the winnings of some sort of lottery or fancy car, or anything else that seems to good to be true. The IRS doesn't call you and asking you to keep something a secret is a huge red flag!

Please review your Medicare statements and be aware of false charges. Contact Northeast Iowa RSVP if you would like a Fraud Fighter presentation to learn more.

While prevention is so important in the fight against Medicare fraud, prevention alone cannot stop all fraud. Finding or detecting issues and reporting them helps to stop bad actors.

Keep a record of the health care services you receive in a My Health Care Tracker from the SMP or through the free SMP Medicare Tracker app. Then compare that to what is billed on your Medicare statements. If things don't seem right, report it right away.
