Viewer discretion strongly advised.

One year ago on October 31, 2025, Walton County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a frantic 911 call about a home invasion on Beacon Way in Santa Rosa Beach that quickly escalated into a violent attack involving multiple victims.

As deputies responded, they encountered a rapidly evolving and dangerous situation while attempting to reach victims inside the home, where the suspect had already shot and stabbed two people.

We understand this footage may be disturbing and that it revisits a deeply painful event for surviving victims, family members, friends, and everyone affected.

The decision to release this video was not made lightly. We do so to provide accountability, context, and a clear understanding of the circumstances our deputies encountered while attempting to stop an ongoing threat and protect innocent lives.

This incident is a reminder of the deadly situations our deputies encounter while exercising restraint until taking necessary decisive action to protect themselves and others.

A comprehensive review was completed by the State Attorney's Office, First Judicial Circuit, which concluded that the actions of deputies were legally justified.

Transparency cannot be achieved through a single act.

It's our commitment that must be fiercely pursued over time to build and earn the public's trust.

We are sharing this video with that commitment in mind.

Have you ever met someone and known right away, "This is a solid human being"?

Chris and Anthony are those people.

Both men, asphalt cowboys on their routes, stopped this morning after the crash on State Road 83 to help. When they could have left, they stayed, helping deputies direct traffic while Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida crews set up a Landing Zone for AIRHeart 2.

They didn't need to be asked. They weren't looking for thanks. They just... helped.

During a chaotic and urgent scene this morning, it was a breath of fresh air to see two people so eager to step in and do what was needed. Thank you both.

The crash on State Road 83 has been cleared. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

We're here if you need us.

Top 10 Halloween Safety Tips for Parents 🎃

Because the only thing scarier than ghosts… is a kid hopped up on about 12 pounds of candy.

👻 1. Light up those little monsters.
Glow sticks, LED clip‑ons, reflective tape! Make your kid visible enough to be seen from space. NASA should have questions.

🍬 2. Modern candy check = a must.
Look for unwrapped items or “grown‑up look‑alikes.” If the packaging looks weird, damaged, or suspiciously trendy… retire it from circulation.

📸 3. Snap a quick “costume pic” before heading out.
Great for memories. Also great in case you need to say, “He’s dressed as a vampire… the other vampire.”

📱 4. Track your tiny trick‑or‑treaters.
Older kids? Share locations or use a safety app.
Younger kids? Consider an AirTag or GPS wearable.
Peace of mind > wandering ghouls.

🚗 5. Driveway danger is real.
Teach kids to pause before crossing driveways. There will be lots of cars creeping around neighborhoods on Halloween night… and not in the fun haunted-house way.

🏠 6. Only approach well‑lit homes.
If the porch lights are off, it’s a no‑go. Darkness is for haunted houses… not candy hunting.

🪪 7. Label your little crotch goblin.
A parent’s phone number on a wristband or inside a costume = simple, smart, and way less awkward than yelling “Has anyone seen Spider‑Man?!”

🧟 8. Set a group plan.
For older kids: stick together, walk, don’t run, and absolutely NO “shortcut through the woods” moments. We’ve all seen that movie. It didn't end well.

🐶 9. Secure your pets.
Even the sweetest dog can get spooked by a zombie cheerleader or inflatable T‑rex.

🚶 10. Remind kids: phones down while walking.
Nothing like becoming a jump-scare for a driver because you were texting while crossing.

Have a great Halloween! We're here if you need us.

HOMEOWNER HOLDS ARMED BURGLAR AT GUNPOINT IN INLET BEACH, SUSPECT ARRESTED

WALTON COUNTY, FLA – A homeowner held a suspect at gunpoint after finding him rummaging through vehicles early this morning in Inlet Beach.

Just after 3:30 a.m., the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary-in-progress call on Quail Hollow Court.

When deputies arrived, the homeowner had Tyler Mack Maroney, also known as Tyler Mack Morris, 25, of Panama City, held at gunpoint.

Deputies quickly took Morris into custody and found a handgun in his waistband.

Morris was transported and booked into the Walton County Jail on several charges, including possession of a fi***rm by a convicted felon, burglary, wearing a mask while committing a felony, grand theft, and obstruction. Additional charges are expected as two more weapons were found in his possession.

As of Tuesday afternoon, our agency has taken several burglary reports on both Quail Hollow Court and Golfridge Drive from victims who discovered items missing from their vehicles.

If you believe you are a victim of a vehicle burglary, please call the Walton County Sheriff’s Office at 850-892-8111.
