DeKalb County Community Action Program

DeKalb County Community Action Program Community Action is a program within Family Service Agency dedicated to serving low-income families.

We are a program within Family Service Agency of DeKalb County. The focus of Community Action is to help families residing in DeKalb County who are experiencing poverty achieve and maintain a higher level of self-sustainability. We work with families to achieve this outcome through a variety of services. The first step in working with a family is to complete a thorough assessment. Our family support specialists schedule a meeting and sit down with families to discuss their overall situation in detail. During this process, the family support specialist and family get a sense of what the urgent needs are and how best to address the needs. It is then determined what services offered through Community Action would benefit the family best. Since self sustainability is the outcome, families benefit most from our ongoing comprehensive support services. Comprehensive support services consist of the family and family support specialist intensively work on setting goals and making action plans to meet these goals. Incentives may be available for those successfully progressing in the program. Learn more about our FSA's other services on our website: www.fsadekalbcounty.org.

๐ŸŽ’ 42+ STUDENTS. 21 GENEROUS DONORS & SPONSORS. 14 DAYS. โค๏ธ

What started as a small Community Action initiative with a goal of supporting 15 students turned into something WAY bigger!

In just 14 days, Adopt-a-Student was launched, sponsored, shopped for, collected, and distributed, ultimately benefiting 42+ students from all five Family Service Agency programs!

Students received backpacks, school supplies, new clothing, after-school snacks, and plenty of personalized extras to help them start the year feeling ready and excited. โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

A HUGE thank you to every individual donor and sponsor who made this possible, with a special shoutout to Oak Crest Retirement Center, Tate & Lyle, The Suter Company, DeKalb Elks, Lehanโ€™s, and Sycamore Rotary for their generous contributions!

And finally, thank you to Family Support Specialist Theresa for throwing the idea out there and our Director of Community Action, Rylie, for running with it and pulling the entire program together in just two weeks!

Our first year of Adopt-a-Student blew our original goal out of the water. ๐Ÿ’™
