🎁Be a Hero This Holiday Season!🎁

The DeKalb Police Benevolent & Protective Association and DeKalb Target are excited to bring back Heroes & Helpers on December 13, 2026!

👮‍♂️ The children are the heroes.
💙 Our officers are their helpers.

Each year, this special program brings DeKalb Police Officers together with local children for a holiday shopping experience filled with smiles, kindness, and holiday cheer.

Children nominated by DeKalb School District 428 and local agencies are paired with officers and given $100 to shop for gifts for themselves and their families.

❤️ We Need Your Help!

Heroes & Helpers is funded entirely through generous community donations. Your support helps us create a memorable holiday experience for children who could use a little extra joy this season.

How to Donate:

Donations can be made payable to “DeKalb PB & PA” and dropped off or mailed to:

Today, we held our 5th Annual Citizens' Appreciation ceremony, where residents were recognized for their participation in providing aid and assistance not only to the Police Department but also to their fellow neighbors and citizens. Partnership within the community makes DeKalb a better and safer place to live! We are thankful for everyone who provides assistance to others, realizing it would be impossible to recognize everyone who lends a helping hand at a critical time!

On September 25, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., DeKalb Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of Ridge Drive for a victim who sustained a stab wound to the neck. DeKalb Police Department officers arrived on scene and immediately rendered aid to the injured victim. The victim stated that he had an altercation with another male subject, identified as Paris M. Craig, who had been harassing some kids on the basketball court. The verbal altercation turned violent when Craig attempted to punch the victim with a closed fist. The victim stated that Craig missed him with his punch but then displayed a knife and swung the knife at him, striking him in the neck. Craig fled on foot after injuring the victim. The victim was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital for medical care, and subsequently transported to Javon Bae Hospital in Rockford, Illinois, for further advanced medical care.
The DeKalb Police Department was provided with a description of the offender (Craig) and was able to corroborate that physical description using video obtained from public safety cameras and private cameras in the area. Officers made numerous attempts to locate Craig at his DeKalb residence; however, every attempt to make contact was unsuccessful. The DeKalb Police Department issued a nationwide warrant for the arrest of Craig for Attempt First Degree Murder.
On October 7, 2026, the DeKalb Police Department was contacted by the Chicago Police Department, which notified the DeKalb Police Department that they located Craig and took him into custody regarding the Attempt First Degree Murder warrant. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Chicago and returned Craig to the DeKalb County jail to await a detention hearing. This investigation is ongoing.
