I was honored to attend this event for Del Mar Community Connections on Oct. 1. Our City’s wonderful organization raises money to fund programs and services that will help older adults to age independently at home.

Single use plastics are a problem, especially if they are not compostable or recyclable. I am pleased to report that recently the governor signed Senate Bill 54 enacting important new rules to control plastics. It sets environmental standards for most kinds of food packaging covering trays, plates, bowls, clamshells, lids, cups, utensils, stirrers, hinged or lidded containers, and straws, as well as wraps and wrappers and bags sold to food service establishments. This is something I have championed for years! It represents an important step forward in reducing plastics and furthering recycling.

TPA congratulates the City of Del Mar for being awarded an FY22-23 State Budget allocation in the amount of $2,200,000 for the Camino Del Mar Bridge Replacement Project.

This funding, secured by Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, will facilitate the replacement and improvement of the Camino Del Mar roadway bridge over the San Dieguito River, a critical transportation project that will benefit the city, county, and region.

The improvements to the bridge will help mitigate earthquake vulnerability and connect the community to a safer, more reliable transportation network. The project will also reduce impacts to the adjacent environmentally fragile wetlands and improve the hydrology of the San Dieguito River.

This latest achievement is another example of the commitment and leadership of the City to protect and promote the quality of life of its residents while providing safe and reliable transportation infrastructure for its community.

Congratulations, Del Mar!
