Deer-Vehicle Collisions Can Happen Anywhere.
Over the last three years, there were 111 vehicle crashes involving deer in the City of Delafield. While data highlights specific corridors on this map, deer-vehicle strikes are not restricted to just a few hotspots. Deer can appear on any road, in any neighborhood, at any time.
Wooded areas are especially dangerous, as dense trees and brush severely limit visibility and reduce the time you have to react when a deer steps onto the roadway.
🛡️ Essential Driving Safety Reminders:
Expect Them Anywhere: Deer frequently cross residential streets, rural roads, and major highways alike. Always scan the shoulders of the road, particularly near wooded patches.
Never Swerve: If a deer enters your lane, brake firmly and stay straight. Swerving can lead to losing control of your vehicle, striking oncoming traffic, or running off the road into trees or ditches.
Where There’s One, There Are More: Deer travel in groups. If you see one cross, slow down immediately—others are very likely following right behind it.
Peak Danger Hours: Exercise heightened caution at dawn and dusk when light is low and wildlife movement is highest.
Use High Beams: On dark roads without oncoming traffic, use your high beams to catch the reflection of deer eyes along the tree line or shoulder.
Stay alert, slow down, and help us keep Delafield roads safe. 🚗🦌
