Sooooooo!
Excited delirium has been used in many cases involving law enforcement and other civil situations. Rote(memory)Training
You learn kicks, punches, takedowns etc. what is needed for your next test so you can pass. Relaxed conditions for the most part. No threat of physical harm. The only fear that is created is in your own mind when you dont remember the technique
Similar to passing firearm training on the range. Again no physical threat of harm.
The term “Zen Combat” combines a mental state along with the physical state. So when one spars against another (kumite) there is a physical threat of harm. Or if someone is shooting at you, obviously, thats a threat.
So my point is -your state of mind in a real threatening situation is not by the rote principle of training.
