As Fire Prevention Week wraps up, here are a few more fire safety reminders:

🚒 Keep fire hydrants clear of trees, bushes, yard features and snow so firefighters can easily locate and access them in an emergency.

🏠 Make sure house numbers are clearly visible from the street, day or night. Keep them free of obstructions like shrubs and parked vehicles to help emergency responders find homes quickly.

🔥 Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly and replace batteries as needed.

⚡ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, and never leave them unattended.

🚪 Make sure everyone in the household knows two ways out of each room and has a designated outdoor meeting spot.

A few simple steps can help keep homes and families safe!

It’s Fire Prevention Week! 🔥

Our firefighters are busy giving tours, answering questions, and teaching fire safety tips throughout the week.

Fire Prevention Week is an annual public safety observance that reminds residents to take important steps to stay safe! Include testing and change batteries in Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors, and creating and practicing a home fire escape plan.

This year’s theme is Lithium-Ion Battery and Charging Safety. Remember to use manufacturer-approved chargers, charge devices on hard surfaces away from combustible materials, unplug devices when fully charged, and stop using batteries that become unusually hot, swell, smoke, or emit unusual odors.

Take some time this week to review fire safety practices and make sure everyone in the household knows what to do in the event of a fire!

Curious how your Delano 150 Years Jamboree day could go? Here are four ways to spend it, but the options are endless!

The Early Bird
Wake up with yoga at 7am in the Heritage Center. Stop by the Information Booth at City Hall to sign up for the pickle-eating or pie-eating contests. Only the first 8 spots get in, so beat the crowd. Then drop off your entry for the Hotdish and Jell-O Salad Contest at the Senior Center between 9:30 and 10:30. Catch Singleton Street on the Main Stage at 10:15, then cheer (or chew) at the pickle contest at 11:30 and the pie contest at 1:30.

The Slow and Scenic
Grab lunch from a food truck or a local downtown vendor. Then take a break and stroll Bridge Avenue. Look out over our bridge, check out the vintage vehicles, and take in the new mural on 2nd Street looking down Bridge Avenue. Stop for a photo. Stroll the downtown shops. Shout out when you get your Bingo at The Wh***ey Jar. Wrap up with Monroe Crossing at 2:00 and the Birthday Celebration at 3:30.

The Family Day
Start with the petting zoo, Old Time Games, and the Orange Crush Robotics demo. Check out the model trains and the Fire Station Open House while getting your face painting and balloon animal. Stop by the Delano Library. Take a break with sensory friendly activities at Blueprint Occupational Therapy. Catch the Just for Kix dance performance at 2:40. Finish with cake and a town-wide sing-along at 3:30.

The History Lover's Day
Start with the model trains at the Fire Station or the Comm. Ed. Gym. Join the Spirit of Community Trail Tour outside the Heritage Center at 11:00 or 1:30. Then wander downtown and meet the living history characters and learn old time games. Stop in the Heritage Center for the printing press demo, then find the letterpress demo with Vintage Storyteller. End your day at the Town Square from 2:00 to 3:00 for Marcia Brakke's book signing of Delano on the Crow. Pick up your copy of Delano on the Crow and get it signed. Grab a Delano Christmas ornament for everyone on your holiday list.
