During the April 8, 2026, Board of Supervisors meeting in Delhi, supervisors were joined by Delaware County NY Soil and Water Conservation District (DCSWCD) and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County (CCE) representatives for a presentation regarding its project, Enhancing Soil Health, Farm Climate Resiliency and GHG Emissions Through Precision Manure Application, Injection, and Storage Management in Delaware County. This three-year project was recently awarded $2,865,890 through the NYS Climate Resilient Farming program. The newly awarded project will assist farms in adopting liquid manure injections with anticipated benefits of reducing nutrient loss and improving soil health, reducing harmful nutrient emissions and runoff into the environment, and reducing manure odors in the community.

Delaware County works closely with our partners at DCSWCD and CCE. The organizations’ ongoing technical and scientific innovations have greatly benefited the agricultural community, the county’s economy overall, the environment, and the watersheds. Partnerships such as these help protect the longevity of our rural economy and communities through sound science, measurable objectives, and long-term success and sustainability. Delaware County congratulates DCSWCD and partners on the funding award. We look forward to our continued, strong partnership as we work together to protect and preserve the lives of Delaware County residents and our rural identity.

A recording of the April 8, 2026, meeting can be viewed on our YouTube channel, “Delaware County NY”.

Did you know that you can still apply for Delaware County positions when there is no pending civil service exam or opening?
While those who have taken an exam and earned a reachable spot on a mandatory eligible list are the first to be contacted for open positions, the department can also hire individuals who have applied without yet having taken the exam if there is no mandatory list. This is called a provisional appointment. If hired provisionally, the employee must take the exam the next time it is offered and receive an acceptable score to commence the probationary period of their permanent employment in the position.

Don’t let “subject to civil service exam” next to a job opening dissuade you from applying – While the Civil Service program prefers permanent to provisional appointments, it’s becoming more common for employees to start a provisional position and take the exam once it is offered to gain permanent employment status. The County is currently hiring provisionally for several positions!
