To create awareness of driving under the influence, ADAC has been providing Impaired Driving Obstacle Workshops to area schools for prom season. We would like to thank the Delaware County Sheriff's Department for assisting us and sharing so much knowledge with the students.

PRESS RELEASE: DEBRA A. PETERS


May 21st, 2026

Margaretville, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Margaretville resident following an investigation.

On May 19th, 2026, Investigators from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division were assigned to assist members of the Delaware County Probation Department with a complaint involving a probationer allegedly violating the terms and conditions of her probation. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that 57-year-old Debra A. Peters of Margaretville, New York, who was under the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, had unlawfully possessed a controlled substance, constituting a violation of her probation.

On May 21st, 2026, upon completion of the investigation, Investigators arrested Peters and charged her with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor, in violation of the New York State Penal Law.

Peters, who was already in custody on the probation violation, was arraigned on the Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance charge in the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility.

PRESS RELEASE: ALEX J. SCRIVANI

May 11th, 2026


Andes, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of Claryville, NY man for burglary.

On May 11th, 2026, while patrolling along State Highway 28 in the Town of Andes, Sheriff Deputies observed a suspicious male walking along the highway. Upon attempting to interview the male, he was uncooperative. Deputies remained in the area, and a short time later observed the male exiting a residence and driveway.

The male who was identified as 41-year- old Alex J. Scrivani of Claryville NY, was then detained and briefly interviewed. It was quickly determined that Scrivani was not supposed to be in the buildings nor on the property. The homeowner was contacted and responded to the scene.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the front door to the residence had been forced open and Scrivani's belongings were inside. It was determined that no items had been removed from the residence, due to the "interruption" by the Deputy.

Deputies arrested Scrivani on one count of Burglary in the 3rd degree, a class D felony and one count of Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor, both offenses of the NYS Penal Law.

Scrivani was transported to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed and subsequently turned over to Corrections for arraignment. Scrivani was arraigned at Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court and held on monetary bail at the Delaware County Correctional Facility.

PRESS RELEASE: EDWARD KANEG

May 9th, 2026

Colchester, NY – Today, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Davenport resident following a traffic stop in the Town of Colchester.

On Saturday afternoon, May 9th, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing that the vehicle had crossed over the solid double yellow line on Knox Ave in the Town of Colchester.

During the investigation, Sheriff's Deputies made contact with the passenger in the vehicle, who was identified as 55-year-old Edward Kaneg of Davenport, NY. During the stop, Kaneg failed to remain in the vehicle after having been directed multiple times by the Deputy, to stay in the vehicle.

Deputies subsequently arrested Kaneg and charged him with one count of Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree and one count of Resisting Arrest, both class A misdemeanors of the New York State Penal Law. Kaneg was additionally issued a traffic summons for Consumption/Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Kaneg was released on UTT’s and appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.
