Demarest PD would like to remind everyone that October is National Crime Prevention Month. With that in mind, please keep these tips in mind daily to help reduce the risk of burglaries and thefts.

Please scroll through to review our tips and precautions to help keep our community safe.

Additionally, always report suspicious activity to the police promptly. If you observe a crime in progress or an immediate threat, call 911. Do not approach or confront suspicious individuals.

Following these simple steps can make a difference in keeping our community safe!

What a great turnout for Demarest Day! It was wonderful to see so many residents, families, and community members come together to enjoy a fun-filled day and celebrate everything that makes Demarest such a special place.

Sergeant Krynicky and Officer Polo were enthused to show the children of the community an up close look of our patrol vehicle and patrol motorcycle!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Demarest Day such a success, including the current Mayor and Council for their continued support and cooperation. We appreciate the positive working relationship we have maintained over the years, which have contributed to the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its operations and better serve the residents of Demarest.

We would also like to thank the Alpine Country Club for participating in Demarest day and feeding our patrolmen for the day. Squad 1 advised the chicken tenders were “out of this world.”

Days like this remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a proud, welcoming, and connected community. We look forward to continuing to work together to keep Demarest safe.

The Demarest Police Department would like to congratulate our very own, Christopher Bianchi, as he was named the Bergen County SLEO III of the year!

This award recognizes SLEO III Bianchi’s hard work, dedication, professionalism, commitment to service, and continuous efforts to make a positive impact in our community.

SLEO III Bianchi formally served as our Chief, prior to his current assignment as NVDHS. SLEO III Bianchi has embraced the important role of serving as a trusted presence within our school community. Beyond maintaining a safe and secure environment, SLEO III Bianchi has built meaningful relationships with students, faculty, and staff, becoming a familiar and approachable resource for those who need assistance, guidance, or simply someone willing to listen. SLEO III Bianchi consistently demonstrates these qualities while helping foster a positive relationship between our department and the students in our community.

Congratulations SLEO III Bianchi, and thank you for your continuous commitment to our department, our schools, and our community!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Nicholas Genuario and his family.

Officer Genuario was struck by a vehicle on Route 80 while conducting a motor vehicle stop on 09/20/26. He is currently in the hospital with serious injuries.

Please keep Officer Genuario, his family, and fellow members of the Saddle Brook Police Department in your thoughts. Demarest PD wishes Officer Genuario a speedy recovery. We hope each day brings progress and that the road ahead leads to a strong recovery and a safe return home to family, friends, and fellow officers. We are keeping Officer Genuario and his loved ones close in our thoughts and wishing them comfort, courage, and continued healing in the days ahead.

⚠️ Please Remember the Move Over Law: When approaching emergency vehicles stopped on or near the roadway with their emergency lights activated, slow down, move over when safe to do so, and give those working along our roadways the space they need.
