During the Month of October, the officers are wearing pink shields in support of those affected by breast cancer. We honor the survivors, remember those we have lost and support the families and loved ones who continue to fight this horrible disease everyday.

Special thanks to Arundel Leatherworks for the amazing work and craftsmanship on our shields.

As the Squad Company was finishing up our Fire Prevention Detail at Luther Lee, we were requested into Norwood for a 2nd alarm house fire on Glenn Ave. First arriving companies had fire in the garage extending into the home through the interior door. Demarest operated on the second floor checking for extension and assisting with ventilation prior to being released by command. The Squad was on scene for just over an hour before returning to the Borough.

Today the Demarest Fire Department visited both County Road and Luther Lee Emerson Schools for Fire Prevention Week. Touching on all things Fire Safety both at home and in school. As always a special thanks to the Principal, Mr. Mazzini, for allowing us to come and speak to the students every year.

It’s Fire Prevention Week!! 🔥

This year's theme is: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower” 🔋🔥

This year’s campaign focuses on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Plug in. Power up. Stay safe.

🚨 Cheap charger? Don't chance it.
Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

🚨 Soft surface? Hard pass.
Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or bare floor.

🚨 Fully charged? Time to unplug.
Unplug your device when it is fully charged.

🚨For tools and rides, charge outside.
Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging.

🚨On a flight? Keep it in sight.
When on a plane, keep devices where you can see them while charging. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on the plane. Tell a flight attendant if you notice a problem with your device.

🚨Feels hot? Stop using it.
Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds.

The Demarest Fire Department would like to recognize Lieutenant Matthew Carey for his life saving actions during the Haworth 5K this weekend. Lt. Carey, along with Lt. Fox, Sgt. Ragone, D/Sgt. Morgan and members from Haworth EMS, preformed CPR on a runner who had collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest during the race. Prior to being transported by EMS the runner had regained consciousness and was speaking with responders. Strong work Matty.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the runner and his family. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

During this mornings flood while handling calls for service in Demarest and Haworth, the Squad Company was requested mutual aid into Closter for an occupied vehicle stuck in flood water. Our swift water technicians removed the sole occupant of the vehicle who was uninjured. Just as a reminder please don’t drive through flood water no matter how shallow it looks and don’t drive around barricades.

A couple of months ago we reached out to Wall Shields Co. to help design a new chalkboard to replace our current one from the 70s and we could not be happier with the results. A huge thank you to Jon and his team for putting together this amazing custom board for us. We truly appreciate the time, effort and craftsmanship that went into this project.
