October is National Principals Month! 🎉

This month, we celebrate the dedicated principals who lead our Mount Baker schools. Being a principal is challenging and rewarding work that requires compassion, dedication, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Our principals work hard every day to support students and staff and create schools where every student feels that they belong and has the opportunity to succeed. They are constantly learning, reflecting, and looking for ways to make our schools better.

We are grateful for their leadership, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to our students and school communities. Please join us in thanking our Mount Baker principals:

- Kim Elms – Acme Elementary
- Troy Wright – Mount Baker Junior High & Mount Baker Academy
- Matt Durand – Mount Baker High School
- Sandy Ledbetter – Kendall Elementary
- Todd Matthews – Harmony Elementary
- Steven Dahl – Early Resource Center

Yesterday, our schools joined communities across our region in observing Orange Shirt Day. This day honors the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and sent to residential and boarding schools, those who never returned home, the survivors, and the generations of families who continue to carry their stories.

We are grateful for the opportunity to join in this important day of remembrance and recognition. To learn more about Orange Shirt Day, visit OrangeShirtDay.org.

Mount Baker School District is honored to strengthen our government-to-government partnership with the Nooksack Indian Tribe. We are grateful to Chairman Ross Cline, Sr., the Nooksack Tribal Council, our School Board, and everyone whose work made this agreement possible.

This new agreement is more than a document. It is a shared commitment to listen, learn, and take meaningful action so Nooksack students and families are supported, represented, and able to thrive. We look forward to continuing this important work together.
