The workers of Denton live under dictatorships of their bosses. The workplace is organized around the owner. The employees, alone, are powerless against this dictatorship. Even if they complain about abuses or bad working conditions, they risk being fired, retaliated against, or blacklisted. The workers in olden times made unions to balance the scales, but because of the power of bosses in this country, these unions have been suppressed, destroyed, or strangled in the cradle. Sure, the government can give a few token laws of support, but a corporation would rather pay one settlement in a lawsuit than thousands of workers fairly.

Without unions, workers have no democratic check on the power of their manager or boss. They have no say in the conditions of their labor. They cannot ensure a raise in wages or protections from abuse. Only through collective action can those benefits be secured. For the benefit of Denton's working class, every business in the city should be unionized so we can transition to a democratic economy.

To that end, I will be pushing for the establishment of a Union Advisory Committee within the city government. Not only will the organized working class be able to talk directly to council about their concerns, but will be able to use it as platform to help other workers to unionize. The workers built the city of Denton, they should run it too. Solidarity forever!
