Urgent volunteer needs: Aurora Animal Shelter desperately needs foster homes, and we need your help NOW!

From sick kittens and senior cats to scared, undersocialized kittens, long-stay dogs, and fearful animals who are struggling in the shelter, we have so many animals who urgently need a safe place to land.

For some, a foster home means a quiet place to recover from illness. For others, it means finally getting the chance to build confidence, learn to trust, and show us who they really are outside of the stressful shelter environment.

We provide EVERYTHING you need!

🐾 All food, supplies, and equipment
🐾 All veterinary care and medical support
🐾 Individualized training and guidance to help you feel confident
🐾 Ongoing support from our foster team every step of the way

You don’t need to be an expert or even have experience - just need a little space, some patience, and a willingness to make a difference.

The animals pictured here represent just a SMALL percentage of those who need foster homes as soon as possible. There are so many more waiting for someone to give them a chance.

Even fostering one animal can make an incredible difference, not just for that animal, but for the next one who needs shelter space!

Please consider signing up to foster TODAY! Apply online here: https://www.auroragov.org/residents/animal_services/aurora_animal_shelter/foster

If you have questions or aren’t sure where to start, email our foster team at [email protected]

We’re running very low on dog enrichment items and could really use your help! 🐾🐶🐾
We are especially in need of large and XL dental chews, soft/training treats, pig ears or cow ears, and a variety of wet food.

Enrichment is a key part of daily shelter life — it gives our pups something to do, helps relieve stress, and supports their overall well‑being. See Duke enjoying a pig ear!

If you’re able, please consider donating any of these items. We — and the dogs — would truly appreciate it! 🐾💜🐾

Meet Stanley! This sweet, silly boy had an absolute blast in his foster home and showed everyone just how loving and energetic he is. 🐾💜

Stanley has big puppy energy and loves being active! In foster, he enjoyed zoomies, chewing sticks, and playing with squeaky balls. He had a successful introduction with Hazel, the resident dog, and they spent lots of time chasing and wrestling together. He can get a bit too enthusiastic and sometimes misses cues when another dog needs a break, so continued socialization and guidance will help him learn good play manners.

Stanley is still learning appropriate play behavior. He can be mouthy and may lunge toward faces when excited, and he enjoys grabbing clothing or shoes for attention. His future family should be prepared for ongoing training around mouthing, impulse control, and respecting boundaries — all normal puppy skills he’s ready to learn with positive guidance.

Stanley is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and people‑oriented. He loves following his humans around, napping in laps, and soaking up head scratches, ear rubs, and belly rubs.

Stanley did great with housetraining and hanging out in his kennel!

Stanley is a loving, playful, energetic puppy with tons of affection to give. He thrives with outdoor adventures, interactive play, enrichment, and structure. With continued training and guidance, he’s going to grow into an amazing companion.
His foster noted that "He has been a joy to spend time with, and whoever welcomes this sweet, silly boy into their home will be very lucky!"

Meet our longest stay cats: Seashell and Papaya! 💜🐾

These girls have been in shelter care for over 100 days! Seashell and Papaya are sweet, playful, and curious girls who may be a little skittish at first, but they warm up quickly and love being pet and occasionally hop onto a lap for some affection.
They are curious about people, cats, and dogs. These ladies are doing great in their foster home, but would love a home of their own together.

Email [email protected] if interested! 💜🐾
