Earlier this month, the Cherry Hills Village Police Department held a ceremony recognizing two members of our department.
Officer Jason Bachman was officially sworn in, and Justin Lane was promoted from Police Officer to Sergeant.
Although Officer Bachman has already been serving with our department, this ceremony provided the opportunity to formally recognize and celebrate his role with CHVPD. Sgt. Lane’s promotion reflects his dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving the Cherry Hills Village community.
👏👏👏 We are proud to recognize both of these important milestones. Please join us in congratulating Officer Bachman and Sgt. Lane!

Read about how we found an armed suspect this weekend with the help of:
✅ A drone
✅ A canine
✅ A team of hard-working officers
✅ And neighbors who quickly reported suspicious activity
Before 7 a.m. Saturday morning, officers were notified of a theft from a front porch in our community which led to a foot chase through multiple yards and properties. The suspect changed his appearance by taking off his hat and sweatshirt while running from police. He is also believed to have stolen a motorcycle from a home nearby. If you live in the northeast portion of Cherry Hills Village, you might have received an alert to shelter in place. We appreciate your cooperation and are glad to report that the incident was resolved quickly.
Ultimately the suspect was tracked to a portable toilet and taken into custody. Take a look at the photo of the drone overwatch as officers closed-in on the suspect. It's worth noting that a canine area search helped officers pinpoint the suspect's hiding spot.
We have a number of partners to thank - including Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and Englewood Police Department for their response and coordination. Our neighbors also played a major role in this capture - they communicated on a neighborhood platform in real time and reported what they were seeing back to us. It's a great reminder to stay connected with your neighbors and always report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Today, on , we’re proud to share that the Cherry Hills Village Police Department is now a KultureCity Sensory Inclusive® Certified department.
This certification is one more way we’re working to make our department more accessible, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone in our community. From sensory bags and supportive tools to greater awareness and understanding, we’re committed to creating an environment where all people feel seen, supported, and safe.
We’re especially grateful for opportunities to connect with members of our community in meaningful ways — like welcoming a tour group this week and opening the door to new conversations, new relationships, and greater trust.
At CHVPD, inclusion matters. Accessibility matters. And building connections with every part of our community matters.

Update Posted Friday, March 6 approx 9:15 a.m.
A Cherry Hills Village Police Officer was at the hospital yesterday afternoon with an arrestee who had been taken into custody on charges of auto theft earlier in the day.
Just after 5:30 p.m., during a medical examination, the officer, who had remained with the suspect during all phases of the hospital visit, was violently attacked by the suspect. As a result of that physical altercation the officer fired shots, striking the suspect.
“We recognize that this incident was troubling for hospital staff, patients, and visitors,” said Jason Lyons, Chief of Police at Cherry Hills Village. “Situations like this are why an officer remains with a suspect at all times while medical care is provided. Violence in a healthcare setting is unacceptable, and we are grateful that no additional injuries occurred.”
We recognize that many questions remain about what led to this use of force. Outside law enforcement agencies will investigate these details to ensure a fair and thorough investigation. As with any officer-involved shooting in Arapahoe County, the 18th Judicial District's Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will investigate the use of force.
As per our policy, the Cherry Hills Village Police Department has placed our involved officer on paid administrative leave while these outside investigations occur. This is a standard practice for such uses of force. Additionally, our department will conduct a separate internal investigation.
