You might run your own business, but life doesn’t stop when work gets busy.

Maybe you need time to take your mom to her doctor’s appointments, or your chronic illness takes you out for weeks at a time.

Self-employed workers shouldn’t have to lose income when life gets in the way of work. That’s why they can choose to opt in to FAMLI and get up to 12 weeks of paid leave when it matters most. 💙

If you’re self-employed or work for an opted out local government, you can opt in today on the Colorado FAMLI website.

Meet Mike: a FAMLI Customer Care Representative bringing fun dad vibes to our Contact Center.

Mike was a mechanic for 26 years, and when his son was born, he had only 2 weeks of unpaid leave to be home for the newborn stage. Now at the FAMLI Contact Center, he helps other Coloradans get the 12 weeks of paid leave that they deserve.

He also runs a “Boot Camp for New Dads” in his free time, where he teaches everything from swaddling to signing up for bonding leave. Naturally, he’s the perfect person to guide dads calling in to FAMLI. 📞

“Congratulations! Your life is about to change in a weird, wonderful way,” he tells them.

Mike cares about each and every person who calls the FAMLI Contact Center, because he understands where they’re coming from. That’s why he’s this month’s Face of FAMLI. 💙

More than 1,000 Colorado families have applied for Neonatal Care Leave since January. 🙌

AP, People, and Lemonada Media are highlighting this momentum through stories like Farra and Marlon White’s.

Their daughter, Olivia, was born 11 weeks early. Without a dedicated paid leave benefit, both parents were forced back to work within 2 days, spending the next 2 months balancing their jobs and life in the hospital with their newborn.

Stories like theirs are why this movement continues to grow - because parents shouldn’t have to choose between work and being there when it matters most. 💙

Motherhood means doing everything at once…newborn naps, toddler snacks, and about a hundred decisions in between. 🍼🧸

When Jessica had her second child, she used FAMLI bonding leave to be with her newborn for those crucial early weeks, while still showing up for her toddler.

Paid leave gives moms the flexibility to be there for the moments that matter most, without losing a paycheck.

What does it mean to “be there” for the ones you love?

Aldo’s daughter is 18 now, and he’s been there for every milestone: from her first steps to her first time behind the wheel. 💙🚗

Paid leave exists so you can be there for the moments that matter:

- 12 weeks to bond with your new baby.
- 12 extra weeks if your newborn requires intensive care.
- 12 weeks to care for a child of any age (or any family member!) facing medical issues.

Before FAMLI benefits began, Colorado workers who couldn’t take time off to see a doctor were 3x more likely to report fair or poor health than those who could.

Now, more than 200,000 Coloradans have taken paid leave to care for their own medical condition.

That’s hundreds of thousands of people who were able to care for their health when they needed it most, without losing a paycheck. 💙

That’s the difference that paid leave makes.

What does it take to build a statewide paid leave program…while building the organization itself?

At the Code for America Summit 2026, Tracy Marshall and Naim Razzak are sharing how Colorado did exactly that.

🗓 Thursday, May 7
⏰ 10:30–11:30 AM

From zero foundation to a fully operational program, they’ll walk through how a digital-first, product-led approach made it possible.

See you there!

Like a lot of us, Aldo didn’t always listen to his mom growing up. She supported him anyway. 💙

That kind of relationship is what FAMLI is about: being there for the people who matter most, especially when life gets hard.

Paid leave exists so you can show up for yourself and your loved ones without losing your paycheck.

Note: never ask FAMLI Director Tracy Marshall to pick a favorite child.

Tracy’s kids make her feel (equally) every day by fighting to be her driving phone call after work. 🚗📞

It’s a daily reminder for Tracy, and all of us, of what paid leave is about: making time for the people you love.

FAMLI exists so you can be there when the people who matter most need you. Without losing a paycheck.
