Energy Outreach Colorado is thrilled to welcome Zach Neumann to its Board of Directors!

Zach is co-founder and CEO of the Community Economic Defense Project (CEDP), a Colorado anti-poverty organization focused on preventing displacement and homelessness. An eviction defense attorney, he has led CEDP since 2020, serving 70,000 Coloradans and distributing approximately $350 million in emergency financial assistance. In his spare time, he volunteers as a wildland firefighter in El Paso County.

Xavier brings more than a decade of home performance experience, including starting and selling his own home performance contracting business and serving as Outreach Director for Energy Efficiency West Virginia and the Building Performance Association. He holds multiple Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications, is a 2015 IECC Plans Examiner and RESNET HERS Rating Professional, and served four years in the U.S. Navy. Welcome to the team, Xavier!

Last week, we joined Pivot Energy at the Kacie Peters Solar Garden in Aurora to celebrate Community Solar Day with subscribers, local leaders, and partners. Thank you to Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman for officially proclaiming Community Solar Day, and to Pivot Energy CEO Tom Hunt and Xcel Energy’s Zeryai Hagos for joining our CEO Jennifer Gremmert in sharing remarks.

This 5-megawatt garden, built on formerly unused city land, dedicates 100% of its capacity to income-qualified households. That means more than 1,000 Colorado families are saving an estimated $800 a year on electricity, at no cost to them.

Guests also toured the site and met its other residents: sheep grazing beneath the panels, honeybees pollinating the area, and chickens raised by local farmers. Proof that clean energy, agriculture, and affordability can grow side by side 🌱

Meet Donna ☀️ A mom of seven and longtime healthcare worker, Donna fell behind on her energy bill when her hours were cut during COVID. EOC helped her catch up, then enrolled her in community solar. Two years later, she’s saved nearly $2,000 and hasn’t needed emergency assistance since.

She’s not alone: 74% of participants we refer to community solar don’t return for bill payment assistance.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. With utility costs climbing and more households facing disconnection than ever, the National Consumer Law Center has laid out a clear roadmap for how states can bring bills back within reach:

1️⃣ Put affordability first.
2️⃣ Help families stay connected instead of cycling them through shutoffs and reconnections.
3️⃣ Invest in cost-effective energy efficiency that lowers bills for everyone.

This chilly Wednesday, we'd like to warmly welcome Julie Murphy to our Board of Directors!

Julie recently stepped down as Director of the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC), which she guided through a period of historic transformation. Her career also includes service as Assistant Director for the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Director of the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and Assistant Attorney General representing the Commission and the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety.

Julie, thank you for bringing your extensive policy, technical, and legal expertise in natural resource management to our board!
