Today CREEC and others called on Governor Polis to protect the most at risk people in prisons from COVID-19. “It is impossible to take the steps necessary to protect against the spread of this terrifying virus unless the prison population is significantly reduced,” said Amy Robertson, Co-Executive Director of Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center. “We urge the Governor and Director Williams to use well-established powers to head off this crisis.”

Gov. Polis Signs Death Penalty Repeal Bill, Commutes Death Row Sentences to Life in Prison Without Parole | Colorado Governor Jared Polis DENVER - Today Gov. Polis signed SB20-100, repealing the death penalty in Colorado going forward. The Governor also commuted the sentences of the three men on death row in Colorado to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
