Another failure. Of a very different kind. Weeks ago, I was wrongfully terminated from one of my favorite places on earth, .

As New Mexico has virtually no workers rights, I’m pretty SOL, but it’s not something I had the energy to fight.

I was passive aggressively fired via HR by a manager that, after 2 months of working ~60 hour weeks, could still not seem to get my pronouns right. (I expanded my pronouns to they/he so it would be easier for service workers.)

The very day I was “reported” I had complained to this same manager about said pronoun use. I don’t believe these two events were coincidental.

Hire trans people. Respect their pronouns. Listen to their honesty. (I wasn’t given the chance.)

I’m looking back at the year and taking notes from failures (and successes).

And just days ago, I was watching Bob Ross paint happy trees when he said, “and remember, there are no mistakes ... only happy accidents.” (Although I don’t believe they’re always happy. At least not initially.

This logo was a failure that still confounds me because I thought the communication was spot on. This situation also perturbed me as she is currently using a bastardized version of this.

I was really into this logo, but it didn’t move forward unfortunately 😔. There are a number of reasons for failure in the logo design & brand development process. I feel it’s important to post both successes and failures. And if anyone wants to start a biz with Icarus in the name, HMU for a deal! Haha 🤷

Tip for designers: make sure to require a 50% payment at the onset of the project to avoid getting royally screwed. 🔩🚫
