A special blessing for a journey with a purpose! 🙏 As Catholic Charities Team Samaritan's 12 cyclists are on the road for there nearly 3,000-mile Ride Across America from San Diego, California, to St. Augustine, Florida, they received a special message of encouragement, prayers and blessings from Archbishop James R. Golka of Denver. In his letter, Archbishop Golka expressed his gratitude to the riders for their commitment to supporting our neighbors experiencing homelessness through Catholic Charities Samaritan House shelters. He also emphasized the dignity of every person experiencing homelessness and offered prayers for the team's safety as they travel across the country, raising awareness and funds for those in need. “Thank you for your willingness to be instruments of hope for so many,” Archbishop Golka wrote. His words remind us that this journey is about so much more than cycling across America. Every mile represents an opportunity to bring hope, compassion and support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Our 12 riders are taking on this incredible journey with a goal of raising $2 million to support Samaritan House and its five shelter locations across Colorado. On Day 4 of Catholic Charities Team Samaritan's Ride Across America, Captain Tom Schwein took us along for a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road, filmed straight from his Meta AI glasses! With 40 miles behind them and just 7 miles left as they headed into Gila Bend, Arizona, Tom shared an update on the team. The roads were bumpy but these riders kept pushing forward! Tom also introduced the team's Yellow Jersey tradition! The rider who has raised the most donations gets to wear the Yellow Jersey and lead the pack. On Day 4, Paul Doherty was leading the way! 👏 You'll also spot riders wearing jerseys from Cycle of Life Adventures (COLA), one of Team Samaritan's sponsors. But this ride is about more than cycling! 12 cyclists are riding nearly 3,000 miles across the U.S with a goal of raising $2 million to support Catholic Charities Samaritan House and communities along the route while raising awareness about homelessness. This journey is especially meaningful as Samaritan House celebrates 40 years of serving neighbors experiencing homelessness in Colorado, providing shelter, meals and resources across five locations. Join us in praying for Pope Leo XIV 🙏. Following the news of Pope Leo XIV's lung cancer diagnosis, Archbishop James R. Golka of Denver is calling on the faithful to come together in prayer as Pope Leo begins his recovery. We give thanks to God for Pope Leo XIV's successful surgery and entrust him to Jesus, the Divine Physician, praying for continued healing, strength and comfort in the days ahead. Archbishop Golka encourages the faithful to keep Pope Leo in their prayers, especially during Mass and through the Holy Rosary, asking the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, to intercede for his healing. As one Body in Christ, let us unite in faith and prayer, lifting up our Holy Father and all those facing illness and difficult health journeys. May God grant Pope Leo XIV strength, peace and a full recovery.

Every diaper makes a difference. 💛 Sometimes, you can see that difference in a smile. For parents working hard to provide for their children, something as basic as diapers can put real pressure on a family’s budget. The average baby uses eight to 10 diapers every day and nearly half of U.S. families with young children struggle to afford clean diapers. And the impact goes beyond the changing table. One in four parents report missing work or school because they don’t have enough diapers and programs like SNAP (food stamps) and WIC cannot be used to purchase them. That’s why moments like this matter. Seeing a dad leave Catholic Charities Marisol Family with diapers in his hands and a smile on his face is a reminder that your donation is more than a box of diapers—it’s support for a parent and an essential need met for a child. You are not alone in raising the children you love. 💙 Catholic Charities Kinship Caregiver Program invites grandparents, relatives and kinship caregivers to our annual You Are Not Alone: Relatives Raising Children Conference 2026 on Thursday, October 8, from 9:30 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center, located at 11151 Colorado Blvd. in Thornton. Throughout the day, caregivers will have the opportunity to learn about resources available to their families, gain practical information and tools for their caregiving role and connect with others who understand the unique experience of raising a relative’s child. The conference will also include a Resource Fair, where attendees can meet with local organizations and service providers, ask questions, learn about available services and discover additional support in their community. This day is an opportunity to build connections, find resources and strengthen your support network. Registration is required by Monday, October 5. This Sunday, Catholic Charities Team Samaritan will set out on Ride Across America! 🚴‍♂️ Our 12 Team Samaritan riders will begin their nearly 3,000-mile journey from San Diego, California, to St. Augustine, Florida, with a goal of raising $2 million and awareness for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Funds raised will support Catholic Charities Samaritan House in Colorado and organizations serving neighbors experiencing homelessness in communities along the route. Joining the team for part of the journey is Paul Mulligan, CEO of Charities Community Services in the Diocese of Phoenix. Paul will ride alongside Team Samaritan as they make their way through Arizona, helping raise funds, build awareness and carry the mission forward one mile at a time. Bringing learning to life! 💛 Catholic Charities Respect Life Office and Marisol Health Mobile recently visited St. Mary’s Catholic School for a hands-on educational experience with more than 140 students in grades 5–8. Students stepped aboard the Marisol Health Mobile unit to learn about prenatal development. Several classes also had the unique opportunity to observe a live second-trimester ultrasound, giving students a firsthand look at a growing baby and different stages of prenatal development. The learning continued outside the mobile unit as students created colorful messages and artwork along the school grounds inspired by what they learned throughout the day. Marisol Health Mobile brings healthcare, education and resources directly to underserved communities throughout Denver and Aurora, helping make services more accessible to women and families. Our Respect Life Office also provides educational opportunities for youth and adults throughout Northern Colorado on topics related to human life from conception to natural death. One mission, many miles and a community coming together to serve our neighbors. 💙 With Catholic Charities Team Samaritan’s Ride Across America beginning THIS Sunday, October 4, Team Samaritan recently visited Hope’s Provision Food Bank, a Southeast Denver community food bank that provides groceries, personal care items, clothing and baby essentials to families in need. The visit was another reminder of the power of neighbors helping neighbors. As Team Samaritan prepares to pedal nearly 3,000 miles across the country in 45 days, their mission is about much more than the miles. The team is riding to raise awareness and critical funds to support Catholic Charities Samaritan Houseand neighbors experiencing homelessness in communities along the route. With a goal of raising $2 million, every mile is an opportunity to bring people together and help provide hope, dignity and support to those working toward stability. The countdown is on! 🚴‍♂️ In just 9 days, Catholic Charities Team Samaritan will begin Ride Across America! Last weekend, members of the team hit the South Platte River Trail in Colorado for another practice ride as they prepare for the nearly 3,000-mile journey ahead. We’re also grateful to have Cycle of Life Adventures (COLA) supporting Team Samaritan as a sponsor along the journey. COLA is a boutique-style bicycle and active vacation company focused on creating personalized cycling adventures for small groups and we’re excited to have their support as the team takes on this coast-to-coast ride. Beginning October 4, 12 Team Samaritan cyclists will ride from San Diego, California, to St. Augustine, Florida, raising awareness and critical funds to support Catholic Charities Samaritan House and our neighbors experiencing homelessness in communities along the route.
