What you carry affects everyone on the road. Secure your load/cargo.🚚

June 6 is Secure Your Load Day. The Safety Patrol, sponsored by GEICO, works every day to clear debris that can cause crashes. Secure it. Double-check it.

Drive with confidence with these safety tips:
🔰Tie items down with rope, straps, or netting
🔰Secure large objects directly to your vehicle or trailer
🔰Cover loads with a sturdy tarp or net
🔰Always check your load before you hit the road

And if you see the CDOT Safety Patrol stopped on the shoulder clearing debris, .
🔹If you can: Change lanes away from the vehicle with flashing lights.
🔹If you can’t: Slow down to a safe speed based on road and traffic conditions.

☀️ SUMMER IS HERE, COLORADO! ☀️

Don't let recent rain fool you—current drought conditions mean Colorado’s mountain corridors are highly vulnerable to rapid fire spread. Since most human-caused wildfires start within a few hundred feet of a roadway, CDOT and state partners have launched the Drive Safe Colorado Summer campaign.

👉 Download your summer safety checklist: codot.gov/travel/summerdriving
📱 Real-time traffic updates: Download the COtrip Planner App or visit COtrip.org

Before you hit the road, remember:
⛓️ Cross Your Chains: Dragging trailer chains spark wildfires. Secure your load!
⚙️ Save Your Brakes: Shift to a lower gear on steep grades to prevent overheating.
🚚 CMV drivers: Watch for hot brakes, use runaway truck ramps if needed, and pull over safely to let them cool.
🚧 Expect Construction: Anticipate delays and narrow lanes on I-70 from Golden to Glenwood Springs.
🚙 Cool Down: Use paved pullouts to check tire pressure and let your vehicle cool off.
🚫🚬 Never, like never ever, toss ci******es or matches from your vehicle.
