GOOD NEWS! 📢 | Director Lew & Deputy Director Stockinger Recognized by the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments

Executive Director Shoshana Lew and Deputy Director Herman Stockinger were recognized for their service and leadership at the PPACG's regular meeting yesterday (10/14/26). PPACG's official proclamation states:

"Since December 2018, Director Lew has provided leadership for strategic investments in the region to address growth, mobility and safety, and understands the unique needs of the region created by the large number of military assets to support national security. Under her leadership, numerous projects in the Southeastern Colorado region have directly benefited its users, including the Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project on I-25, CO 94, South Academy Boulevard and Charter Oak Ranch Road, as well as new interchanges on Powers Boulevard at Research Parkway and Airport Road."

"Deputy Director Stockinger has served at CDOT for more than 25 years. He has brought a personal connection to the Southeastern Colorado region as a Colorado Springs native, and has served as a trusted partner in policy and planning. He has also helped ensure long-term consistency for large projects, including the I-25 South Gap project, I-25 interchange improvements at Cimarron Street and Fillmore Street, and the creation of the Bustang intercity bus network."

⚠️TRAVEL ALERT⚠️ | Overnight eastbound I-70 closure and two overnight westbound I-70 closures on I-70 Floyd Hill

Crews will require overnight closures of I-70 as major progress continues on the construction of “The Live Lift,” the westbound I-70 concrete cast-in-place segmental bridge. Crews will grout the tendons on the concrete cast-in-place segmental bridge over westbound I-70 near US 6.

They will also shift eastbound I-70 traffic in a new alignment to open up new areas for construction between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243). This work will require an overnight closure of eastbound I-70 between eastern Idaho Springs (Exit 241) and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243), and two overnight closures of westbound I-70 at US 6 (Exit 244).

Motorists can stay informed on the upcoming closures by signing up for text alerts by texting floydhill (one word) to 21000.

📢PROJECT NEWS📢 | Sign replacement project to begin in Central Front Range and Southeast Colorado

🗺WHERE? The project will take place at eight locations in Custer County, Douglas County, Fremont County, Park County, Colorado, Pueblo County and Teller County.

🚜WHAT? Crews will remove and replace approximately 1,000 signs. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2027.

⚠️TRAVEL IMPACTS: Daytime work hours are sunrise to sunset Monday through Friday. Shoulder closures, single lane closures and one-lane alternating traffic will take place in the work zone. Minimal delays are anticipated, and speeds reduced through the work zone. Construction schedules are weather dependent.

⚠️TRAVEL ALERT⚠️ | I-70 Hanging Lake Tunnel emergency repair project underway

Work hours are anticipated to be Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Fridays from 7 a.m. to noon. Travelers should expect single-lane and shoulder closures within the work zone.

The project involves removing three-panel metal vertical lift doors, guide angles, counterweight systems, metal frames and lifting mechanisms that separate the Cinnamon Creek Complex maintenance area from the westbound I-70 lanes of the tunnel. Replacing these components will ensure safer access to the HLT maintenance facility.

Motorists are urged to slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles, and plan for additional travel time. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2026.

🔸8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, through Tuesday, Oct. 13 - Expect overnight, single- and double-lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-70 between Idaho Springs (Exit 241) and Homestead Road (Exit 247) for restriping operations and construction work.

🔸Noon to 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13 - Expect daytime, right-lane closures on westbound I-70 between County Road 65 (Exit 248) and Homestead Road (Exit 247) for construction work.

🔸7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14 - Expect a daytime, right-lane closure on eastbound I-70 between Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway (Exit 243) and US 6 (Exit 244) for bridge construction.

🔸 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16 - Expect daytime closures of the Hidden Valley on-ramp to westbound I-70 (Exit 243) for drainage work.

🔸7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16 - Expect daytime flagging operations on eastbound US 40 between US 6 and Tonn Valley Drive, Central City Parkway, East Idaho Springs Road bridge over Clear Creek and on the Clear Creek Greenway Trail, just east of Idaho Springs (Exit 241) for construction activities.

It's October.. and here's a spotlight on two important roadway safety reminders⏬

1️⃣Oct. 7: Walk & Roll to School Day
Slow down, stay alert, use crosswalks, and watch for pedestrians and cyclists. Drivers, be especially mindful around schools and bus stops.

2️⃣Oct. 18 to 24: National Teen Driver Safety Week
New drivers: buckle up, put the phone away, follow the speed limit, eliminate distractions, and never drive impaired. Parents, keep the conversation, and the practice, going.

And remember, the CDOT Safety Patrol, sponsored by GEICO, is there to help when the unexpected happens on the roadway. From assisting motorists to responding to incidents, they help keep everyone moving safely. Whether on your wheels or your feet; safety should always be along for the ride.
