Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission ECMC regulates energy development in Colorado, protecting the health and the environment of Colorado’s communities.

ECMC regulates the development and production of Colorado oil and gas, including geothermal resources, the capture and storage of carbon dioxide, and natural gas in a manner that protects public health, safety, welfare, the environment and wildlife. Meet Audrey Blakeman, ECMC's Environmental Manager. She leads a team that works every day to help protect Colorado's environment.

Her team responds to spills, supports environmental permitting, manages important environmental data and helps restore oil and gas sites to their natural, pre-developed condition.

Their work helps protect Colorado's land, water and communities.

📋 A lot has changed in Colorado’s oil and gas regulations since SB 19-181 passed in 2019.

Today, the focus is on protecting public health, safety, communities, wildlife and the environment.

Since then, Colorado has seen:

82% fewer approved surface locations
88% fewer locations approved within 2,000 feet of homes
73% fewer well permits approved
More public input and stronger financial and environmental requirements.
