Boulder County Parks & Open Space was honored to participate in this year’s Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month awards ceremony hosted by the Boulder Heritage Roundtable.
Elisabeth Rios-Brooks, Parks & Open Space Cultural Resource Program Coordinator, presented Local History & Preservation Honor Awards to the student researchers involved in the Boulder County Latine & Chicano Historic Context Project and the team behind Proclaiming Colorado’s Black History for their work documenting and elevating underrepresented histories in our communities.
Their work helps create a more complete and inclusive historical record by elevating stories, places, and perspectives that have too often been overlooked. Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients and thank you to everyone working to preserve and share our community’s diverse histories.

Explore the habitats and behaviors of ravens and wolves; two highly intelligent animals known for their complex social lives and vicious reputations. Both species are native to Colorado, though wolves were largely absent from the state from the 1940s until 2023. Join us to learn how these animals thrive amongst themselves, with each other, and within the greater ecosystem. The program starts with examples of mounts, pelts, sounds, and s**t, followed by a 1.5-mile hike with stops to observe and discuss habitats and behaviors.
