Mentorship Program | Next 100 Colorado 07/23/2020

Help us foster a more inclusive and equity-oriented workforce in Colorado鈥檚 outdoor spaces! Next 100 Colorado is launching a pilot mentorship program in fall 2020 aimed at uplifting and connecting leaders of color who work, or have recently been employed, in fields related to the outdoors.

The Pilot Mentorship Program, designed in partnership with Youth Outside, will foster a supportive and connected network of leaders of color at different stages in their careers. The program will provide a brave and unique space to help young professionals of color working in natural resources management, conservation, or outdoor recreation fields develop leadership skills, form networks with peers and mentors from similar backgrounds, and access people, organizations, events and other opportunities.

More information on the program and applications can be found at:

There are a lot of barriers for anyone entering the sport of whitewater kayaking, especially for Black, Indigenous, People of Color.

We at Diversify Whitewater in Fort Collins, Colorado are removing barriers to introduce BIPOC to the sport that we love.

Join us for a free, community paddle for all skill levels and abilities to celebrate and embrace diversity on the river. This event will be led by two women of color who have over 15 years of combined river experience. We will provide all of the boats and equipment.

饾懢饾懐饾懚: New to experienced paddlers in Colorado who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) and community allies
饾懢饾懐饾懆饾懟: Group downriver paddle (Rafts and kayaks) and BBQ lunch
饾懢饾懐饾懍饾懙: Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 9:00am - 1:00pm

饾懢饾懐饾拃: To provide an inclusive and low-barrier space for beginner to advanced BIPOC and allies alike to have fun on the river together. Colorado has so many beautiful outdoor spaces that should be accessible to everyone. We want to celebrate the amazing community we are a part of and help newcomers experience and enjoy recreating in the outdoors as much as we do.

Our event will be 100% volunteer and donation driven, and free-of-charge to all participants. We will prioritize safety and inclusion throughout our day together. All safety gear (helmets and life jackets) will be donated by the local whitewater kayaking community and paddlesports shops for use by those who do not have their own equipment. cityWILD's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the outdoors is deeply tied to the river, and we firmly believe that the whitewater community needs to work on becoming a place where Black, Indigenous, and all People of Color feel welcomed, safe, and celebrated.

We fount out today about this awesome event hosted by Diversify Whitewater - Colorado. We encourage you to support this event in any way you can--and if you are a person of color who would like to attend but needs transportation support, let us know and we'll do our best to get you there!

Dear cityWILD Youth, Families, and Community,

In our previous correspondence, we noted that we would make a decision regarding our Cole spring break trip by Wednesday this week. In response to the evolving COVID- 19 situation cityWILD has made the challenging decision to cancel the Cole Program spring break trip to Moab, Utah March 28th-31st. This decision is a continuation of cityWILD鈥檚 commitment to the health and wellbeing of the youth who participate in our programs as well as the health of their families, the community, and our staff team. We realize that this is likely disappointing news in a turbulent time though the decision comes with best practice and safety in mind for all. This decision has been made with input from families, partner organizations, and cityWILD staff, all of whom have concluded that the best choice is to cancel the trip.

We hope you are finding ways to connect with loved ones and taking care of yourselves. Please feel free to reach out to our staff team with any questions you may have about this decision.

In Community,
The cityWILD Team
