The moment you step out of your vehicle, you become a pedestrian. 🚶‍➡️

For October's National Pedestrian Safety Month, we're reminding everyone that safety is a 2-way street:

👁️ Drivers: Scan crosswalks and stay focused — put the phone away.
👟 Pedestrians: Stay visible, use crosswalks and look both ways before stepping off the curb.

DeQuincy Police Beat-August
There are no crimes to report this week and that is a good thing. Recent burglaries were solved and warrants were obtained for car burglaries. A warrant was obtained for the burglary of one of our local businesses and that subject is being held at the Calcasieu jail on several charges.
Major’s notes: Don’t get caught up in the Arrest Warrant Scam whereby victims receive a phone call stating a warrant has been issued for their arrest due to failure to pay a ticket or appear for jury duty. Then the caller, who claims to be an officer with a law enforcement agency, instructs the victim to provide a prepaid card to void the warrant and arrest. It is most always that the scammers request a prepaid card to void the warrant and arrest.
On a personal note, my tour of duty is quickly coming to an end. It has been my honor as a first responder for 63 years to serve our nation. However, all things must have an ending. I have been blessed to have had the opportunity in serving around the globe and participating in a thousand adventures and meeting many various types of people. I even had the opportunity of meeting four kings and having one of them hug me for my service. But what I really am looking forward to is meeting the real King. Be safe/wise.
Major Jerry Bell

Major’s Notes: Hurricane season begins June 1 and ends 30 November which means we are in the middle of Hurricane season. Presently there are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic but lots of activity in the Pacific which does not involve us. However, there are some tropical waves off the coast of West Africa. The Coast of West Africa is a major birthplace of Atlantic hurricanes. When you see tropical waves moving westward from that coast, into the warm Atlantic, they can intensify and become tropical storms. That gives the US plenty of time to get prepared.it is always best to have a hurricane plan. Our DeQuincy preparedness team is ready should we get one this season. Our leadership has been thru numerous hurricanes and know what must be done. Be safe/wise.
