🔥 Derby Fire was proud to play a major role in this weekend’s Wichita H.O.T. (Hands-On Training) Fire Conference!
Wichita H.O.T. is a premier regional fire training event that brings firefighters and instructors together from across the country for two days of classroom education, leadership development, and realistic hands-on training.
Derby Fire was well represented both in the classroom and on the training grounds!
🚒 Fire Chief John Turner instructed “Fire Ground Strategy: Thinking Like an Incident Commander,” sharing his experience and knowledge of fireground leadership and decision-making.
🚒 Fire Coordinator Ariana Davis, representing the L35 Foundation, presented “Complacency, Safety, & the Tough Guy Mentality,” a powerful discussion about firefighter safety, mental health, and the lasting impact of line-of-duty deaths.
🚒 Training Chief BJ Parsons, along with numerous Derby Fire officers, firefighters, and volunteers, helped coordinate and instruct “The Working Engine & Truck,” a two-day course emphasizing essential firefighting skills and realistic live-fire operations.
🔥 And we set a new training facility record! Our crews supported an incredible 24 live-fire burns in a single day at the Derby Fire Training Facility! An impressive accomplishment requiring extensive preparation, coordination, and a tremendous commitment to safety. A huge credit to the reset team led by Derby Firefighter Trent Zimmerman, who broke records at resetting the burn rooms in as fast 8mins 55secs.
We’re incredibly proud of everyone who contributed their time, experience, and expertise to make this event successful. Notably, Graffiti Artist Aeron Johnson painted a banner sign for this years event.
Training doesn’t just make better firefighters. It makes safer firefighters and stronger departments, ultimately benefiting the communities we serve.
Thank you to Wichita H.O.T., our regional partners, instructors, and volunteers for another outstanding conference!
