The Iowa State Fair PD was created Jan 1, 2018 & is staffed by state certified police officers 24/7.

We encourage members of the public who visit the grounds, as well as, neighbors surrounding the fairgrounds, to help us maintain a safe and secure environment by reporting suspicious activity and being our eyes and ears to deter crime. It is our mission to insure that the Iowa State Fairgrounds continue to be a safe and inviting environment for everyone and ask that you help us in that effort.

A few weeks ago we were asked to assist the Mitchellville Police Department with their annual Shop with a Cop Program. We enthusiastically said yes! We may have had less than ideal conditions weather wise, but we had 17 excited kids that were counting on us to show up for them. After a little bit of shopping it was off to the Fairgrounds to wrap presents and eat some pizza. We would like to extend our thanks to the Mitchellville Police Department for the invitation. We would also like to thank our friends at 7 Brew Coffee for graciously donating hot chocolate and all the fixings for the kids as well as gift bags for each child’s parent. This was a team effort and we are honored to be a small part of it.

Two of our officers had the pleasure of participating in a “Trunk or Treat” event Sunday afternoon. We would like to thank Soteria Des Moines for the invitation. Officers Schneider and Davidson thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share some with the West Des Moines community.

Please review and share this with friends and family as you prepare for our Fair Sweet Fair. We want Fair-goers to have a fabulous time and not have issues entering the Fairgrounds because they inadvertently brought a prohibited item with them.

State DPS Shared this with us. Please help if you are able.

Trooper Kyle Slifka #486 at District 1, was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He is staying positive after the diagnosis and has already begun chemo treatments. With the possibility of extra days off and the cost of treatments, Molly Gilliam and I have designed a shirt to help with the added costs. The design includes a silhouette of Kyle against the green Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer ribbon. A percentage of the proceeds will go directly to Kyle’s family. Everyone will have the ability to choose “Pick Up” (Toploft Customs in Carroll, IA) or have it shipped to them directly for $7.00. The store is set to close Friday, July 18th. We have provided the store link where shirts can be ordered below. We are asking you to share the link with local Law Enforcement Agencies in your respective areas. Also, please share on your personal social media platforms as we try and reach as many people as possible to support Trooper Slifka’s family. The Iowa State Fair Police Department proudly assisted with the Mitchellville Police Department Shop with a Cop event today. Five officers from the ISFPD along with Bette Morris, Secretary for the Administration building, partnered with the Mitchellville Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Urbandale Police Department, and the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The Iowa State Fair also provided a bus to assist in transporting the 26 children to Target and back to the Mitchellville Police Department to help ensure they had gifts for Christmas.
