October’s monthly meeting was a short one due to the golf course clubhouse closing at 7:00.
We did the traditional round of introductions and you were to say your favorite Halloween candy or joke. There were a couple surprise jokes that were actually funny, mixed in with the usual suspects.
Our guest speaker was Nikki Hayter, Franklin Library Supervisor. Nikki spoke to us about the many programs and services the Franklin branch offers. Including, but not limited to:
- Nintendo Switch games to borrow. This is unique to the Franklin branch.
- The popularity of the community fridge
- No holds for hot titles
- a photo exhibit of the Apollo mission from the Smithsonian
- death cafe - a grief support environment
- Odds & Ends: Random Stories and Trivia about Iowa
- DSM Playhouse previews
- Fall author series - Craig Johnson, author of the Longmire mystery series
- a jigsaw puzzle swap meet
- the list goes on and on. Please look at the Upcoming Event calendar on Franklin’s website.
Nikki spoke about the budget cuts and how that will affect the Franklin branch. As you are probably aware begining November 1 they will be closed on Sundays. As will the Central branch. There are no branches open on Sundays, after November 1. She was asked if this would impact any employees and she assured us no one will lose hours because of this. Some positions won’t be replaced, but no one will be financially impacted by this step.
Open discussions invloved positive comments about the recent Porchfest a couple weeks ago, The weather was certainly on our side that day.
Our annual meeting is November 1 from 3-5:00 at the Waveland GC clubhouse. We’ll elect a couple new board members, eat free pizza and you can renew your annual membeership. Please. Live music will be provided by Tim Earp.
We adjourned at 7:00 sharp!
