Proteus was honored to be represented by Jesusa Rivera, Senior Career Coach, at La Casa de Amistad's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration in South Bend. The evening recognized community leaders, celebrated Hispanic heritage, and highlighted the strength and resilience of the families who help shape our communities. Proteus was proud to stand alongside partners and community members in recognizing the invaluable contributions of farmworkers.

One of the evening's most meaningful moments was the unveiling of a special printmaking artwork created through a collaboration between the University of Notre Dame's Institute for Social Concerns, artist Ramiro Rodriguez, and youth from La Casa's Adelante program. The artwork honors the labor, dignity, and sacrifices of migrant farmworkers whose hard work feeds our nation and strengthens our communities. As a lasting tribute, prints will be permanently displayed at La Casa de Amistad and the South Bend Mayor's Office, serving as a reminder of our community's gratitude and appreciation for farmworkers and their families.

Thank you to La Casa de Amistad, the City of South Bend - Municipal Government, and all those who continue to celebrate the legacy, contributions, and impact of Hispanic leaders and farmworker families.

One of our favorite parts of the I’m Thankful for Farmworkers Dinner happens before the program begins.

People find their seats and start talking.

Someone discovers they grew up near another guest’s hometown. A person who works in agriculture meets someone involved in community health. A longtime supporter welcomes a guest attending for the first time.

By the time dinner is served, the room holds connections that did not exist an hour earlier.

That feels fitting for an event honoring agricultural workers. Their lives and labor connect farms, businesses, families, and communities throughout our region. Many of those connections are easy to miss during the rush of an ordinary day.

On November 5, we are making time to notice them.

Come on your own, invite a friend, or gather a group around a table. We would be happy to welcome you.

The Proteus Board of Directors has named Sarah Zeidler as our new Chief Executive Officer.

Sarah brings extensive experience in community health, workforce development, financial stewardship, and strategic growth. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Oncology Services at UnityPoint Health's John Stoddard Cancer Center and has been an active leader in several community organizations throughout Iowa.

As we look toward the future, we are excited to welcome Sarah and continue building on our mission of supporting agricultural workers and their families through job training, educational assistance, and access to healthcare.
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Carla Beste, who served as Interim CEO while continuing her role as Chief Financial Officer, helping guide the organization through this transition.

Whether it's lowering blood pressure, improving blood sugar levels, becoming more active, or making healthier food choices, every achievement matters. Through PASO, participants gain the knowledge and support they need to take charge of their health.

In 2024, 63% of participants saw improvements in their health outcomes, proving that change is possible one step at a time.
