Stable housing can be the foundation for a more stable future. 🏠

The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors has awarded more than $760,000 to eight nonprofit providers to help sustain existing permanent supportive housing programs serving more than 400 Iowa households.

Permanent supportive housing combines affordable rental housing with access to case management and support services, helping Iowans who have experienced chronic homelessness remain safely housed while addressing health and other challenges.

The awards will support existing housing programs across Clinton, Johnson, Muscatine, Polk, Pottawattamie, Scott and Woodbury counties, helping providers cover critical operating costs and continue serving Iowans who need it most.

🏠 More than $6.4 million is headed to Des Moines and Dubuque to expand housing and supportive services for Iowans experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The IFA Board of Directors has awarded federal HOME-ARP funding to two projects that will support the development and rehabilitation of 42 housing units:

📍 The Beacon Village Phase II | Des Moines
$4.4 million to transform an underutilized former hotel into 32 affordable homes, expanding stable housing and support for women rebuilding their lives after homelessness, incarceration and substance use challenges.
📍 Henry-Stout House ReHousing Rehab | Dubuque
More than $2 million to rehabilitate 10 affordable housing units in the historic former YMCA and expand supportive services for qualifying residents.

These investments pair safe, stable housing with the support Iowans need to move toward greater stability and independence.

🏡 Changes are coming to IFA’s down payment assistance options.

Beginning November 2, 2026, new loan reservations will have two second mortgage assistance options:
🔑 NEW: 3% Second Mortgage — up to 3% of the purchase price, up to $10,000
🔑 UPDATED: 5% Second Mortgage — up to 5% of the purchase price, up to $15,000

Both options can be used toward eligible down payment and closing costs, with no monthly payments required. The Plus grant will also be discontinued for new reservations beginning November 2.

The Iowa Finance Authority has received a national award from the National Council of State Housing Agencies for our homeownership marketing campaign featuring real Iowa homebuyers. 🏡

Through videos and photos, Iowa homeowners share the real stories behind their journeys — the obstacles they overcame, what they learned along the way and how IFA mortgage and down payment assistance helped make homeownership possible.
These stories are part of a broader strategy that seamlessly connects aspiring buyers with participating IFA lenders and tracks their progress from initial interest to completed home purchases — helping us better understand how our outreach is turning interest into homeownership.
