Today, the Des Moines Police Department proudly partnered with Highline College to celebrate National Coffee with a Cop Day!

Our officers and department staff enjoyed connecting with students, faculty, and community members over coffee and meaningful conversations.

Coffee with a Cop is about more than sharing a cup of coffee. It’s an opportunity to break down barriers, encourage open communication, build trust, and strengthen relationships with the people we serve.

We believe strong communities are built through positive relationships, mutual understanding, and a willingness to listen. Sometimes, the most meaningful connections begin with a simple conversation.

A special thank you to Highline College for welcoming us onto campus and helping make today’s event possible. We also appreciate everyone who took time out of their day to stop by, say hello, ask questions, and connect with our team.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and strengthening our community partnerships—one cup of coffee at a time!

Last night we had a senseless act of violence in our community, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old man. This was not a random act but rather a shooting following a dispute between two individuals. Our detectives are working the case, interviewing witnesses and reviewing all technology at their disposal to identify the suspect. We are supported by Washington State Patrol's specialized team in processing the crime scene evidence and the King County Prosecutor is working alongside us to make sure the suspect is not only located but successfully held accountable for their actions.

I want to express my condolences to the victim's family. You have my commitment that Des Moines PD won't stop until the suspect is held accountable. To my community, I know events like this cause fear and rightfully so. We do not believe there is an ongoing threat to our residents at this time. We will have an increased presence in downtown for the next several nights until the suspect is in custody. Anyone with information is encouraged to call us at 206-878-3301.

Homicide Investigation – 22300 Block of Marine View Drive S
At approximately 1:55 a.m., Des Moines Police officers responded to the area of 22300 Marine View Drive S for a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they located a 31-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began providing first aid until medics arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect was not located at the scene, and investigators believe the suspect fled the area. Des Moines Police detectives are actively working to identify and locate the person responsible.

This remains an active investigation, and further details are unavailable at this time.

***Marine View Drive S is closed between S 222nd Street and S 223rd Street while detectives investigate and process the scene. Please use alternate routes and avoid the area.

ROAD CLOSURE

Des Moines Memorial Drive is closed in both directions between South 208th Street and South 212th Street while officers investigate a fatal incident.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch in the 21000 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive South. It appears the driver suffered a medical emergency and, unfortunately, was pronounced deceased.

We ask for your patience while officers complete their investigation and wait for the Medical Examiner. The road is expected to remain closed for the next couple of hours. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.
