Today 21 clergy members gathered at St Paul AME Church for a time of fellowship and discussion as AMOS prepares for our “We the People” Convention on August 30th. Representatives from a variety of communities had the opportunity to discuss the intersection of faith and the political life and strategize ways to engage with community members to mobilize them to action. We are so grateful to St Paul AME Church Des Moines for hosting!

Coming out of our We the People house meeting campaign, 84 AMOS leaders negotiated our We the People convention issue agenda priorities:
-Silver Alert for vulnerable seniors
-timely EMS services
-Public Education
-Water Quality
-Immigrant and Refugee supports

More than 5 years of AMOS organizing work to increase access to affordable home ownership in the Des Moines metro is paying off. The first affordable homes in the Central Iowa Community Land Trust are now under construction for future home owners!

35 AMOS leaders participated in our 2-day We the People Organizing Training at Central Presbyterian Church of Des Moines! Together, we engaged leadership skills and relational practices for effective change-making in our local organizations and communities.

At Sunday's Delegate Assembly, 115 AMOS leaders from 30 organizations and 2 guest institutions launched our We the People house meeting campaign! Together, we committed to engage 2,637 Iowans in small group conversations about what's getting in the way of safety and happiness for their loved ones. We brought the founding vision of the Declaration of Independence to life and challenged ourselves to work towards life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all Iowans. Thanks to Plymouth Congregational Church for hosting!

36 community members from the Madrid area attended last week's community listening session about emergency services, particularly for rural county-line residents. We’re launching a research team to better understand this issue and how we can work together to improve response times. Thanks to St Paul's UCC Madrid Ia for hosting!
